Have any of u had a C-peptide test taken ??? I hear its the common test to see if your pancreas is still producing insulin … Type 1 , cells in pancreas r attacked & destroyed so that pancreas no longer produces insulin . Type 2 , body gets so insulin resistant pancreas is making so much insulin working so hard that yes sometimes it wears out and no longer produces insulin leaving the type 2 insulin dependent just as a type 1 … Some say if a type 2 has a pancreas that no longer produces insulin and they r insulin dependent that they r now type 1… WHAT SAY YOU ON THAT ISSUE ??? If a type 2's pancreas stops making insulin is there a way to heal the pancreas so that it starts to produce insulin again ??? I'm on insulin pump 24/7 I'm a type 2 . My doctor thinks/believes that I'm insulin dependent and that my pancreas is no longer producing insulin … I will be getting C-peptide test taken soon …

I was originally diagnosed as a T1 back in 2001 and was acting accordingly. Never had a c-peptide done. I just had my first one done last year. I'm actually T2, but I produce so little insulin on my own, my endo felt that I should stay on my insulin. Sucked when I was trying to upgrade my old pump to the new one. The health insurance I had at the time only approves pumps and pump supplies for T1 diabetics… Luckily I was able to switch to another insurance company that didn't have those same views.

I was diagnosed in 1976 as a Type 1 but never had a C-Peptide test done until I went to a new endocrinologist in 2010. The test verified that I did not produce any insulin so I was being treated properly as a Type 1. It's good that you are having this test done. If you are still producing insulin, you may be able to reduce the insulin you inject/pump by increasing exercise, losing weight or changing your eating habits. It will help your doctor and you determine what is the correct approach for you. Let us know your results.
