This month I am going to try something new. Instead of listing all that we eat and our numbers, I thought we could tell how we are doing and what is or is not working for us. That way if someone wants to post but not our numbers and what we are eatting that is ok. I Thought we could post our Weight by the 5th and if we are exerciseing or not. Remember Housework, walking, cleaning house and chaseing kids is all exercise. LOL If you don't exercise but want to lets use this Month to help each other to get more Active and also to help each other where we are eatting at the wrong times like I do sometimes (when stressed out or depressed)

Lets try it this way if it works lets stay with it if not then next month we'll go back to the old way.

I weighed myself this morning and I am 204 lbs.I started my diet this morning and I will come back Feb.6 and tell you how the first month went.My goal is to lose 14 lbs. this month.I will lose 10 lbs the first 2 weeks because all that is water weight and then i will lose 2 lbs every week after that.Wish me luck this time dieting for me is going to be a little harder since I have already done this once last year.Im not looking forward to doing the diet again. But I have to look at the good things that will come out of this diet.
1.I will look good
2.I will have more energy
3.My body will be stronger
4.The risk of me becoming a diabetic(gone)
5.Show my kids anything can be done if you set your mind to it

I am so happy tonite that I wanted to share with you Gabby. After supper and my bath I checked my BG level and it was only 69 tonite. I took my reg. dose of Byetta 5mcg before supper and decided to take 14u of Humalog instead of the 10 for the level to cover my supper carbs and am so glad that the numbers are only 69 tonite. I will post A M numbers in the morning with my breakfast and I am going back to my counter tomorrow also. Talk more to you tomorrow nite.

Well here is the last Sunday of 2008 and I'm looking forward to 2009. I tried to do this Discussion a different way this month and it really didn't help me as much as months past so I'm going back to the old way Next Month. I am only making one New Year's Resolution and that is I'm not doing that any more as I always drop it before the end of Jan. So this year I am going to make small goals and just keep changing it as I meet my goal.
So My First Goal will be to drop 3# this next year.

Yeah!!! I was going to ask if we could go back to the other format. I find that when I have to be accountable here, it really helps me do better. I am all for that! Thanks

I was thinking of evryone here that we may need a change to get thru the holidays and it didn't help me one bit. My numbers are all over the board again. that is the reason for going back and not changing it for anything again.
Hope all had a good Holiday Season. Mine was a quiet one and I loved it. Got to see one Grandson I had not seen in over 6 months. I got pictures of him and his Daddy together first one in over 2 1/2 years. His Step Father doesn't want his real Daddy around because his Mom said she still loves Devon's Daddy. But why should the child suffer for it.

Happy Holidays Everyone. I have put on a picture of the Camaflage side of Gabby's quilt even though I'm not done with it so take a look and when I a done with the whole quilt it will be replaced with the finished one. I may post the other side as I am working on it too. Hope you like it Gabby.
Now for how I am doing. I have been enjoying the holiday season even thou I no longer celebrate it. My kids all have faimilies of their own now and spend with the other side of their families on the Holidays. That is ok with me. To many around and I go to pieces real quick so they keep it quiet for me at this time of the year. I was so sick last week I didn't do much of anything. I got to see 3 of my Grandsons this past week. I got pictures of the one I seen today with Gerry and they are posted and also some from Annie of Mikey and Angel with Gifts from yesterday in Missouri. I am glad that the Grandkids all enjoyed yesterday and got loads from Santa again this year.
I got 2 new Quilting pattern Books for the Stitching from my self they came in before Christmas and now am ready to learn how to do them. Will post all of my projects as they get done for all to see how I am progressing at the craft and when I'm ready to start on Large Quilts with it I will post the Offer again for all to take advantage of. Thankyou Everyone for keeping in touch and for all of your hard work this past year. Good luck in the New year and I hope it all goes the way you want it to for you and your family. I will post my weight again after the first sometime. I will surprise you all with the date I pick this next month.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE;
Here is the beginning of a new week again and I am starting to feel better than I have for over a week. My cold is breaking up real good and I am very busy on Gabby's quilt. It is really coming along on makeing the blocks. I have 7 more sets to iron and then the smaller groups can be finished to lay out the whole quilt. I should be done by tomorrow nite with the blocks and then Wed. I will do the lay outs and take pictures for my scrapbook and how it is coming along. My numbers have been high this last week and I expected them to be as I was not well. they are coming down today and will continue as long as I get well.I feel like I'm floating in soup and sandwiches cooked the last of my soup today. Will start back on solids tonite and see how I feel tomorrow.

We have been eating a lot of soups this week too. Not as chilly as it had been, but tonight will be cold (at least by Florida standards)
I have not been disciplined this past week at all, and my numbers are showing it. I did so well during Thanksgiving, but this was harder than I thought. I thought I would have more will power, but alas...I have given in at every turn it seems. Today was my lowest AM reading at 165 in more than a week! sigh...I will be glad when winter is over. Comfort foods are hard to break in cold weather.

I did have one glimmer of hope. As I am selling my wedding dress, yesterday I had need to photograph it. I was afraid at first to try it on, but it fit great! Wow! I was amazed. 8 years ago it fit tight, and now it fit quite easy, no extra body sucking required. LOL

Gabby just remember you may be having a hard time but you are smaller than 8 years ago. Great Job!!!! I'm glad you can get into yours I ballooned out the week before Bill and I said I DO and still can't wear mine. It is beautiful and I should have had a picture when it did fit. Now I may never see myself that small again. I will try it on again on Feb.13th and then again on Dec.16th next year. Wish me luck…
I was going to go down to the Park Community Room for the Holiday Party for the Community and fell on the Porch and then slid across the ice to the next trailer with out trying made it back to mine and said to H-LL with it. Nothing but Ice now and not going to end up in Hosp. for this place just to have a party. NO way No how Not Me LOL

Gabby
GabbyPA 2008-12-23 17:53:56 -0600 Report

I remember those days of ice. We used to have a ditch in our front yard in Illinois and my brother and I would ice-slide. We just took a run and slid on the ice as far as we could. I loved it as a kid, but now I would worry too much about hurting myself. How disappointing! LOL

Sorry you didn't make it to the party, but just imagine all the "no thank you's" you saved! he he he

I won't tell you that I was soaking me feet this afternoon out side on our patio and my husband gave me a little pedicure. All in the 80 degree sunshine. I am mean...you need to come next year for Christmas instead of October. You will appreciate the weather more. LOL

If you want you can post the first of each month so as to check the same day of each month not a problem. I picked the 5th because of my Grandma's birthday in Feb. easy day to remember. Can't pick the 31st of each month as there isn't one.

Well yesterday I rode down to Indy with Bill for a job interview with a Trucking Company and he gets to start on Jan. 5th for his training and by the Middle of Feb. he will be in his own truck going over the road for atleast 3 weeks and then home for about 4 days and back on the road. I told him I was staying at home. I went to the Drs. office yesterday before we headed down to Indy and got my Byetta and Humalog replaced as I was out of Byetta and on my last bottle of the Humalog. My numbers have been high again with out the Byetta and eatting more than normal for me again I ran out on the 2nd and my numbers were back up in the 300's by the 7th at lunch and I couldn't get them back down under 200 first thing in the morning so I called and asked if I could get them from him. Last night before supper I took my byetta and this morning my BG was 91 and has not gone over 185 today.
Thank the Good Lord that it helps keep the BG's down. Byetta may not be insulin but it sure works like it is.
I never realized how high my copays were till I added them up today it is up to $325.02 per month. And the insurance pays over $2,000.00 for my meds and supplies. Being Diabetic and having other medical problems in our lives is real expensive. Bill called the Union Benefits Office and found out he has enough hours in to pay for our Medical till My Birthday on July 31st. I will have to get Part D with my Medicare or not get all of my Meds I will need if Bill can't get Medical on his new job. If he does I hope they pay better than the Union does for Meds. There are some we still can't afford and I get them from the Drs. Offices. There is no way we can afford all of my Meds without Ins. I never realized how much it cost for all that I get now and pay for. Starting in Jan it will be up to $375 a month. At least we can claim it on the Taxes at the end of the year. LOL

I will keep you all posted how it goes once I'm home alone. And then we will see how the numbers are after that.

Today I celebrated (sort of) 47 years. I made a yummy cake that I posted the recipe for in our section. I hope you guys try it and make it as friendly as you can and let me know how you changed it up. I got it from Realage.com

Tomorrow is my BIG DAY! My first visit to a doctor to get help with my diabetes. I am nervous and excited. This guy or gal doesn't know me from adam, so I am starting over, but at least I will be able to get the help I need to get my numbers where they need to be. My goal will be to get off them as fast as I can, but at least they can get me out of the red zone that I am in.

Anyway, be rooting for me tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.

2008-12-10 19:56:24 -0600 Report

Good luck tomorrow Gabby… and remember if you do have to take meds it's not the end of the world and if you can't 'get off them' that's not a bad thing either. You are the important piece of this puzzle so 'whatever it takes'…

Thanks Judy. I am thinking that because I was not able to get my numbers any lower than I have, that meds may be it for me. I won't give up trying to beat them though. I really don't want to if I don't have to, but I want to stop the damage that is being done to my body. That is my primary goal.

Thanks for your support, I so much appreciate it. A big ((hug)) to you.

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a good day I know I did. First I took Gerry about to drop off work Applications and then went to the Drs. Office and picked up the Byetta and Humalog then went to Indy with Bill while he was checking on a Truck Driver Job which he starts on Jan. 5,2009 He will have about 4 weeks training and then driving with a trainer and then on his own. I am so excited as I will have more time for quilting and can fix what ever I am hungry for till he comes in off the road so it should be interesting to see how my body reacts to the change in the meal plans when I can follow just one meal plan and get under control better in Feb. Will let all know how itis going after he leaves for his road trips and earning a better wage than he is now.

Hi Edie,
I changed to a doctor in August who specializes in the treatment of diabetes and it has made such an impact on my treatment. She sent me to the dietician at the local hospital - who went over my eating habits and the 1600cal ADA diet that my doctor wanted me on to lose weight and help keep my blood glucose in check. It was a real eye opener. Since August I have lost 35lbs - it seems to have just fallen off. But now I am at a stand still and need to lose about 20 more lbs. I do exercise - but not on a regular basis - kind of hit and miss. I am thinking of joining the rec center here - they have a wonderful gym - maybe I would do better with company to exercise with.

marla3300
marla3300 2008-12-07 21:32:44 -0600 Report

Duh! Okay, every 5th of the month. I'm in. I weigh 250. I'm under new medications which are causing me to experience edema (water weight gain) and in one week, I have had great sugar levels but gained 10 pounds! Plus the edema hurts.
For those of you who cannot walk, just getting up and down off the floor is a great simple exercise. Plus, if you have a good mat, there are stretches and palates, you can do which are isometric and then there is the exercise bike. I use a treadmill with my son and dogs in the winter.
I hate the word exercise most of all. It means commitment and pain.

Edie
Edie 2008-12-08 08:27:20 -0600 Report

You can weight your self the 5th of each month or any day you want to. I just said the 5th to make it easier for me to remember. Next month I am going to weight myself 2x that way I can see if it is water gain or just me getting fatter thru the winter as usual.I have really cut down on the size of portions I put on my plates for meals and it is working great for me. LOL
I really love food and that is my down fall. Now to just get the right combos for me to drop the weight and I will be doing good. They change from season to season for me. But once I get my act together I will be doing rather well again. I am so proud of my self we went to the Union Christmas Party and I got just a small helping of everything but only one dessert and that was a brownie but I only ate half of it and Bill took the rest for me. Bless him he knows how hard it is for me to turn my back on a plate with food still on it. I was raised to clean up your plate cause you never knew what or how much would be at the next meal. Mom raised 6 of us by herself for most of my life and I beleive she did a super job of it.She worked as a cook in bars and restraunts for as long as I can remember and only got $50.00 Child Support a week when dad and Pat decided to send it. And back then Michigan didn't help struggling families that much even the food banks didn't give that much to help a family in need. Lots of Oatmeal, rice, beans and peanutbutter also cheese boy did that bind us up. LOL My sister Sue learned to fix Oatmeal alot of different ways. Then one day our Brothers put garlic in the salt shaker and did Sue go off on them. Another time they put extra ingredients into a cake she was makeing and the dog burried it. Sue was in tears till she found the boys laughing their butts off then they were runnign from her It was so funny. Well I have to run so I will be back later today when I get back home and after I spend a couple of hours cutting material for some more projects to work on this evening.

I lost one more pound (a rebound after I gained two a few weeks ago, so I kind of lost 3) The thing that I am doing a little different now is actually eating a little more carb. I think I have been so carb starved that my liver is working overtime. It seems to help. Part of learning my PCF ratios I guess. I am staying in the 160's-180's at my AM fasting, and my pre dinner numbers are getting between the 140's and 170's, so I am getting there. I can't wait to have a week with 0, zilch, nada 200's in it. That will be a god send.

I am also trying to be much more active, not just my walking. I am leaning three things my body needs. Strength, Balance, Agility...so I am finding ways to do all of those. As I do, I will share them so you all can join me.

Gabby you are doing real well. I am proud to see that you are doing so well. My numbers have been low also for a few days. Ran out of Byetta on the first and am seeing how I do this month not using it. If numbers jump again I will ask Dr. Quin for some to get me through till next month. LOL
So far I am keeping my portions sizes down and that is doing real good. I ate a smaller portion for dinner yesterday so I could have some of the Desert and it tasted real good but won't eat it as a habit as my numbrs went over 20 with the cheese cake not good. will stay away from it for awhile now then when I get hungry for it again I will make sure I'm at home and fix My own dish of it. the piece I was given was 2x the size I would have served myself. Starting Monday I will be starting on the small projects and sending them out to anyone that wants one just let me know on the Quilting Discussion if you want one. Iwill send you a seperate email asking where I can send them too. and that way no one else gets them with out you givingit to them yourselves. LOL I don't like my address given out unless I'm the one doing it so there you have it.

Hey Edie,
Isn't it kind of risky to not take your insulin? That sounds so scary to me, but then I don't live it. That is a world that makes me cringe.

Mmmm cheesecake. That is actually one desert I can eat. If I make it with xylitol or another sweetener besides white sugar, the cheese seems to help slow the absorbtion of the carb. I love a good cheesecake and I make them at home so I have the control. We did a pumpkin one for Thanksgiving and I am doing a ginger one for my step-daughter.

It was going ok for the first 2-3 days and then the numbers started going back up and I will ask for it again tomorrow. I'll be back on track after tomorrow. My sugar went up today also after a christmas party. I had just one helping of Lunch and one half of a brownie I gave the other half to Bill. It was just to big and I really wanted some. I had one small helping of mac. salad, potato salad, potato chips and then a sandwich on wheat bread of 2 slices of cheese, ham, roast beef, and turkey with mayo, then I got 2 pieces of celery, cauliflower, brocolli and cherry tomatoes, withjust a piece of brownie that I shared and one can of Sprite. Not bad for the meal.

So stay with me and give me a kick in the butt if you see that I am loseing the battle to keep loseing weight. I am hoping to get down to 150 pounds by the end of Next year. Like December 31,2009.

That sounds like a great plan, thanks Edie.

What is working for me this week is to let myself have a little of what I want and that is it. I was so surprised when my numbers on Turkey day were actually no worse than my everyday numbers. I was thirlled, that I made it that far. I have had some of those lower numbers show up in my log book and I think I owe it all to my exercise routine.
Like Edie said, you can count things like cleaning house, even cooking....as long as you keep your fingers out of the testing pot. LOL!!

Ok for me I will only post how much I have lost. How many pounds. I will not post my weight because that to me is a personal thing. If you do not want that I will not post here. Thank you.

Post what ever you feel like posting no one is going to complain. I feel better when I post what I weight cause then I know that I will have the extra help I need to keep heading in the direction I want to go. Down ofcourse. Last time I weighted myself I was 253 something and I hope that I have lost with all of the stress I have been under this last month. Thankyou for joining us here.

Post as often as you like or once a week.

This past month has been very stressful for me. I am looking forward to December and hope it is kinder to me. LOL
I will post my weight by the 5th. In the A. M. when I first get up on an empty stomach. Maybe I will have lost more weight that way. I am starting the new month out on a good note and with the help of my son Gerry my home is getting back into order so I can get back to my Quilts. I have over 20 books for my quilting and have 2 more ordered to help me with the stitching for them. I am excited. These new ones are my Christmas Gift to myself. That way I get what I want and don't have to beg to get them. LOL
