Don't worry too much, the rest of the time will help to balance it a little since the A1c will reflect about 3 months of averages. I will have mine on the 18th, and I too expect an increase. But I feel that we should not be extremely hard-core vigilant or we run the risk of burning ourselves out. As long as we limit the indulgences to minimal holiday rewards and get back to business as soon as the holiday is over we should still maintain a manageable A1c - but, of course I'm not a doctor, so follow the doctors advice first and foremost!

My hubby is a Diabetic, I have helped him tremendously. His a1c went from 10 to a 7.1. I will give you some info that will help and you shouldn't go do the A1c. let me help you then wait a couple months to go take it?

Don't worry about it, just start doing better today. We all slip, but beating ourself up only adds stress that we don't need. Good luch and Happy New Year.

Hi Gennie, no matter what the result, it is all good provided you got to learn something from your experiences over the holidays. All to often I feel we look at an A1c as if it determines whether we are bad or not. What I encourage us all to do is simple. Did you learn something if it wasn't where it needed to be?, and if so, have you made some changes?. If it was good, then why was it good?. Do more of that. That's my two cents, and thanks for starting an excellent discussion.

Well, the times that I think that it will be high it is fine, not only for my A1C but for BP as well.
When i went in for my check-up a month or so ago the nurse took my BP and I told her not to tell me what it was. I pulled myself off of BP meds that a prior doctor gave me, and I was trying to bring it down by eating better, and I didn't think that I was doing well with that . . . she said "well, your BP is fine 130/70" and I just said to myself "YESSSSS" (It will come down more when I start working out again).
I got a similar reading with my A1C when i didn't think it would be good.
I go to the doctor twice a year for a check-up, and going before holidays is a much better feeling than going after, so maybe next year plan it so you go before them.
Happy New Year !!!!!

there are several things you can do for your Blood pressure, 1 is put the tip of your index finger on tip of you ear both sides the very top of it. then at the same time slide them up to the top of your head this should be the center of your head, take about three of your fingers on that spot rotating like in a massage type, circular motions take deep breaths at same time as massaging and exhaleing do this for two miniature and this will make your blood preasure drop.

Good luck Gennie, holidays were hard were for me also, although I tried to stay within reason, certain foods which didn't go together and company sent me to some highs which is not normal for me! So it's the new year and we are back at it! Don't be discouraged, you will do fine, as long as it's not the way we choose to live daily. We have to live and life does happen!

Best of luck on your A1C! I have my 2nd on January 24th. A tad bit nervous, but excited at the same time. I went from a 14 in August to a 7.1 in October. I've really behaved myself and have been working hard to get it lower. Hoping for at least the mid 6s. Again, good luck!!!! :)

I getting my A1c next week … Doc told me it would likely still be high because I didn't start getting control till late November … He said I might have an A1c of maybe 11 something . He said don't be discouraged . The one we really want to see the results is the one taken in March … Enjoy life Gennie yet surely watch them carbs and like I told u once before always take your meds …

I've been doing the same during the holidays for many years, and still going strong. I'll continue to be bad on the holidays also. C'mon genniedevera, ya gotta enjoy life ! Just don't let being bad get out of hand to often!!!

Here's to wishing you the best on your A1c test, always remember that regardless of the outcome, you are still in control, even if it (sometimes) doesn't feel as though you are.
So don't let a little "holiday enjoyment" dampen your new year, your test results will be fine!
