According to the Free diabetes test supplies, including blood glucose meters and test strips may become a thing of the past under new medical devices tax. Diabetics in the United States looking for free test supplies and blood glucose meters, which have been commonplace in the medical industry here for many years, may be in for a rude awakening after January 1, 2013.

On that date, a little known provision of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, kicks-in. The provision will levy a 2.3% tax on the sale or import of ALL medical devices in the United States. This includes a great number of medical devices and supplies that diabetics depend on for their care every single day. It will include test strips and blood glucose meters, lab equipment purchased by their physicians, hospitals and health care clinics and much more. The tax will be levied directly upon the manufacturer, who in turn must pass on these charges to suppliers, who in the end will pass on the cost of the tax directly to consumers. Read more about this here ~ ttp://www.freediabetestestsupplies.com/free-diabete...

Is this just hysteria? Is it an attempt to gin up sales before the new tax rates come online in 2013?

I know those of us who need test strips eventually may have to pay that 2.3% tax somehow. But I plan to order a lot of stips so I won't need to pay the tax until absolutely necessary.

I will also petition my senators and representative to stop this tax ASAP as it hurts the Middle and lower income classes the most, and only impacts the upper income folks a very little.

So far as I can tell the Affordable Care Act is turning out to be a misnomer. Not that Affordable.

In life we must take the good along with the bad…
Being alive to see today allows us the time to plan for tomorrow, what more can one do?

I am happy I have insurance and they pay for my supplies. I am truly blessed. I know it is hard for some people. I just wish some of the law makers could live on some of our incomes for 1 years and see if they can make it. I don't think they could!

I am happy for you too. Unfortunately that may be changing in 2014, the year the ACA will be fully implemented.

What I would like to see is the lawmakers (incluing the president) have to be on the SAME insurance as they have set up for us peons, rahter than the platinum plated, jewel encrusted plan they now have for themselves as a "perk of office". I had my congressman actually write that to me when the ACA was being passed.

This really shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.
The people were warned way before the election that this type of thing would happen, and it's only going to get worse.
I can't believe that the people of the United States of America were so stupid to elect Obama for a second term.
I also can't believe that the ADA vigorously suppoted ObamaCare.
Personally, I am scared to death of the next four years.

For once Iron, I agree with you 100%

But I did not post this to make a political statement, but to encourage folks to do what they are able to in this short time left to minimize their tax hit.

I also agree with you Sophie our so called leaders and State leaders are crap only the rich and the poor will be the only class left

Before I get firmly planted on my soapbox and can't get off, let me say just this…the so called Middle class will cease to exist, IMO, as each of these new "Affordable Care" acts come into play. Not one of us who need it most will be able to afford what we need, and the richest Americans won't be impacted at all.
The government will decide who gets what, and how much of it, and then we will be hung out to dry when our money and ability to pay runs out. And then we'll be paying a "penalty" for not being able to afford the insurance for our care, and that is, I believe, how the government and the insurance companies want it, so they don't have to take care of the sickest, poorest ones.
Petitoning our leaders will make no difference, IMO, until they have to have the same healthcare as the rest of us, but they never will, so they will not see what their agreeing to something they didn't even read has done to their very own constituants.
I am disgusted in my State and my leaders, and there isn't a whole lot I can do about it, except vote-and that doesn't make me feel like I did anything worthwhile, actually.
OK-off the soapbox, and please remember that this is my opinion, and may not be yours, and we will all be agreeing to disagree in the coming years, and we are all adults and should act like it!
Oh, and James, remember that test strips have an expiration date-I don't want you to order up a bunch and then get stuck with them and not be able to use them :)

UtahToad 2012-12-20 23:57:02 -0600 Report

I was given some tubes if "expired strips" that I used with "fresh strips" most times double testing to compare for curiosity sake. Little if any difference ever. Made me look into the strips and why they could expire. I couldn't see anything inside that could expire. Don't take my word for it, cuz I'm an engineer, not a pharmacologist or doctor, but it really made me wonder if it was just a marketing scam. (Which wouldn't surprise me at all!)

Thanks for your concern Sophie. I intend to only buy 500 or so. I think I will use up 500 before they expire.
