AHA isn't as bad as many are dreading…i've read it twice all 2000 pages…it saves many money by not allowing discrimination for having diabetes or other issues. there is also a new project that for the last year has been snagged because of HIPA laws that actually would be great if they can get it going…an electronic medical records card - all your medical history on a card so if ever your unable to talk. allergies, meds, an issues can be scanned by an EMT/ED they'd know "James" is type 1 diabetic, A+ blood, allgery to shellfish, sulfa drugs and cats or "Donna" has CHF, on blood thinners…
having had insurance, then losing a job and going to "free clinics" writing drug companies to get coupons for meds, then getting a job that didn't offer insurance, going to a better job with insurance only to be given a higher deduction/premium due to diabetes…it's a cycle that needs broken…i've filed for bankruptcy because i have medical bills i can't pay even having insurance. part way through my recovery process my employer fired me. they said i was able to do the job i was hired for so terminated me. that iS WITHOUT letting me return even part time. 12.24.11 i had 4 strokes, doctor error caused them giving me 4 times a medication your not suppose to give diabetics. my B.G. dropped to 40 and i drank oj, ate, even did regular pepsi but i just felt soooo bad i made the decision to go to the ER. i spent 33 days in hospital…i've applied for disability. my right side may never recover. i've relearned to walk, talk, dress myself, i'm working on writing - i am now 2nd grader chicken scratch lol. 2013 has to be better…don't dread it look for the positive sides to it.

The positive sides come with (hyperbollically) 20 more negatives per each positive. The ADA is a monstosity which needs a MAJOR reworking if not repeal and try again from scratch, IMO.

Ppl like you and me have lots to fear when this is fully implemented as is in 2014.

I expect that further medical care will be denied to you and me because we are too sick and have too many conditions. We would come under the dictates of the "Independent Payment Advisory Board is the absolute power that is vested in an unaccountable 15-member oligarchy. (even though the words death panel is never used in the ACA this would be it) If there ever was an unconstitutional delegation of power, this would be it" . . . whole article at ~ (which is hardly a right winger/conservative newspaper)

We can choose to hide our heads in the sand, but that does not make the danger any less real to us — especially people like us who have so many "medical challenges" that they may not want to treat us beyond giving us pallitive care and waiting for us to die.

Actually I am dreading 2013 as I feel with all the changes in the law concerning health care, and all the taxes going up on everyone, i also fear a deepening recession and increased inflation. It is going to be one fubar of a year IMO. Just my fears coming out.

hello jay - we don't want to ever give up. It is hard to face things sometime but we have to keep on positive notes and not let the voice of others influence our thoughts. I want 2013 to be a yr of changes for myself.

Oh M Lynn I am not about to give up — not as long as there is breath in my body. When my kidneys quit functioning and I had to go on dialysis (Nov 2006) I thought of stopping the dialysis and just let the disease take me, but since I am writing this I obviously didn't take that "easy out" and have been blessed by it. So I refuse to give up until there is no breath in me.

I agree with you! IMO it is going to be a financially doom and gloom year, but perhaps we can find some joy in it by going back to simple things, simple foods, simple entertainment, stuff that doesn't cost too much, and is fun, to make up for the drain healthcare and taxes are going to be on us all.
But when we got to the end og 2013, we will have accomplished much, as we have in 2012, so Happy New Year to everyone, and may 2013 not be as bad as we think it will be, and lets try to enjoy it. We are all still alive, and that's what matters!
