I don't know much about the lap band procedure. There have been lots of articles concerning it lately. Maybe if you do a web search you can find out all you need to know. Be sure and list diabetes with the words "lap band." That way you will see if the benefits it provides will help you. Also, my doctor recommends it. I asked him. Be sure and talk to yours about it.

You don't look that large in the picture, but I can't really tell by a face shot. But you look a little like Brad Pitt.

I have a friend that had by-pass surgery 7mth ago. She was insulan dependent diabetic. She has lost 95# and no longer needs insulin. She can walk a mile1/2 each day. She had the surgery one day and came home the next. Good luck

Hey Noel7,
I used to consider this but now a dear friend of mine is having her surgery reversed. She did have the by-pass, much more complicated than the lap band, but I have to say that it really does worry me. She had her surgery 6 years ago, lost a lot of weight, looks great, but now there are complications that are not guaranteed to be fixed even after this new surgery.

I say all that to say that ask every question you can think of. Even if you think it is a goofy sounding question. Make sure you are confident with your doctors. Messing with the tummy is scary stuff.

I have no idea how much overweight you are, which would be a major consideration. I presume you've counseled with your primary physician on this. This type surgery is not for everyone, of course, and it is my understanding that only certainly people qualify. Aside from discussing with your doctor, you should also try to speak with people who have undergone the procedure to see if they consider it successful and a good decision for them. Whatever you decide, I wish you well.
