just eat small and dont eat till your full just eat a small portion of your meal and make sure you eat before 10pm that realy helps a lot and sometimes your sleep time can affect this.

I do that to. I usually eat something, an apple, piece of cheese, small snack. If I eat a meal, or a sandwich that late in the day, then I don't eat dinner. I have a small snack in the eveing.

Hey Safari. Been there. Done that. But I found something that really helps. When I absolutely can't eat on time, I have a Glucerna "candy" bar. I don't know what else to call it. Or a Glucerna shake. The bar isn't super good, and the shake isn't real good if it's hot. But they are for diabetics and won't raise your sugar levels. They contain all kinds of vitamins and minerals, and may take the place of your meal without raising your levels too fast or too much. I also carry crackers with me, just a few, but then have to remember I ate them when I finally do eat. There is another brand of shake and bar, but i don't remember the name. I did try them and did'nt like them. Good luck. Liquorish

I walk, walk, even around dining room, kitchen area if I wake up with a BG reading that I find unacceptable! This works great!

I drink water with a tablespoon of distilled vinegar. Taste bad but it works for me.

apple cider vinegar with the mother works the best, you can also get apple cider vinegar capsules. I put ice in the glass seems to help mitigate the aftertaste if it is cold, it will drop me 30 points in 15 minutes

Test, drink and test again. Drinking water will help to eliminate your sugar. Now that it is the next day, what you may also want to do is some exercise. That can often help bring levels down as well.

I finally did! I felt too messed up yesterday but it made me feel so bad and helpless that I think I've learned an important lesson

Sometimes it takes a bit of a slap in the face to get us to realize that we really can't just do whatever we want. Being mindful helps a lot. Even if you fall off the wagon, if you are at least mindful, you may not stray so far next time.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. You have to keep your A1c under 7…whatever that takes. An endo would be a good move at this point. Don't fool around with this. Go for it. Good Luck.

Safari4 2012-11-28 20:10:41 -0600 Report

Thank you so much for the advice. I need all I can get at this point. My A1C just hit 7. Do you think I should go from my reg dr to an endocrinologist at this stage.

MoeGig 2012-11-28 20:05:39 -0600 Report

It's simple…say 3 Hail Mary's and don't do it again. (Sorry it's a Catholic thing). Look knowing you screwed up is a good thing. Fear of failure and a resulting miserable life is what motivates me and probably motivates you to do what you need to do. The consequences of failure are horrible and certain. If your blood glucose hits 200, you will probably need to go on insulin. (It's easier to control your sugar with insulin than pills and the tiny needles are just not that big a deal.) Make sure you have a doctor who knows what he's doing…an endocrinologist is best. Been doing this for 46 years, and so far so good. Good Luck.

My Dr gave me the choice of diet and exercise instead of pills. I've been so tired and not exercising much yet…thanks for the tips… I've been reading a lot but still ignorant and panic…do sick of being sick but at least I know why but not dealing with it very well yet. Thanks so much. Pickles, here I come.

This reading is about 2 hrs after eating the junk. I think I might have been low before I ate. I couldn't eat lunch at 12. Ate at 2.

2 hrs postprandial is a good indication of what you've done. So take the suggestions to bring down your BG levels (not recommending the alcohol, mind you). What are you using to control your BG levels normally? diet and exercise? Medications? Insulin?

One of the best ways to bring down one's BG levels that I forgot to mention is EXERCISE. Walk or run or do other forms of physical activity. It burns off the extra glucose in your bloodstream and also lowers insulin resistance. Plus try not to stress over it. I know easy to say hard to do.

jayabee52 2012-11-28 15:16:52 -0600 Report

What is your Blood Glucose (BG) level now? Don't want you to over react and go into a hypoglycemic state, or get on the BG roller coaster.

Some of the ways of bringing down a BG level would be eating dill pickles, or anything with vinegar or acid (like Lemon juice = citric acid). But to protect your tooth enamel please swish water in your mouth afterwards. Straight alcohol, like vodka or gin also lowers your BG too, but is not recommended.
