When I first started using a pump, I would disconnect the tubing for 5 minutes to shower. I always inserted the plug into the infusion set. Many people said it wasn't needed. I haven't been using the plug lately and haven't had any problems.

What is your experience?

I'm new to the pump … I never cover or plug my infusion set site while taking a shower … I don't even know if plugs came with my supplies … Does anyone use a Medtronic pump ??? Do they have plugs for their infusion set sites ???

Yes, but you've got to look for it in the box. When I was using the Medtronic, it was in a little piece of clear plastic.

I usually throw out the plug too. I've been diabetic 36 years. On the pump for 7 years. I have had a few infections at the infusion site, but my guess is that was from the tubing getting pulled and the canule being moved around, or me just trying to make the infusion set last one more day. I asked my doctor about swimming without the plug in place. He reminded me about the added pressure from diving deep and how that could introduce water to the site. Well just one more thing to worry about I guess. Now when my ears pop, it causes me to wonder. I don't think it makes any difference though and I still don't use the plug.

I always throw them out as soon as I open a new box. I guess I never really knew what they were for but I've never used one and had no issues. I don't disconnect when swimming so I guess it would only be showering that something might happen.

I usually use the plug/cover that comes with the infusion set when showering unless I forget…not often and no adverse reactions when forgotten. I would definitely recommend using the plug/cover if swimming in any body of water though.

I just dont risk it and use the plug all the time
99.9% of the time no prob but I just think its best not to risk that .01%
Theres some nasty things in water
Be3st wishes

When I had my Animas pump, I used the plugs if I had them, and didn't if I couldn't find one. I never had issues with it either. A very tiny amount of water might get into the housing, but it never caused a problem.
