I was wondering if anyone who is type two has also been diagnosed with anemia? If so, how did you feel before you knew what was going on? I have been sooooo tired and weak lately, but my bs is good, so its not related to that. I get dizzy sometimes, and just have to push myself to get thru a day at work. I have heard that diabetics have a greater chance of becming anemic. I have an appointment coming up to have my blood checked, but until then, I thought I would ask the real experts..people who are living it. Thanks!

My Moter in Law had problem's turned out to be from the continued Diareah from the Metformin they put her on diffrent meds and the problem's cleared up.

If you are taking metformin, you need to take b-12!! Metformin depleats vitamin b-12 for anemia. Also, if you are taking any statin drugs, you need
to supplement with coQ 10. It has helped me.

I have iron deficiency anemia and was diagnosed when I was 16. I use to be on iron pills but they made me sick so I eat a lot of iron rich veggies. I use to take a multi vitamin with iron. I am tired a lot so I am about to start the vitamins again.

I know this is hard. I am anemic and can't take the pills because they make me sick. My endcro. sent me to a blood doctor and he sent me for a iv iron transfusion. My blood levels have come up and he said they will keep raising. I will see him again in 2 months. Best thing I have ever done.

Thanks for the info! Seems like there is always something new with diabetes, more pitfalls or obstacles to trip us up.

had never learned so much as until after I was Dx'd with DM (diabetes mellitus) and I had a wife who was Dx'd with it as well! I've been learning ever since.

try some extra fiber, I take psyillium fiber, the fiber offsets the extra carbs they say

jayabee52 2012-11-26 10:09:41 -0600 Report

Actually I do take extra fiber. However how would the extra fiber affect the constipation from the Iron Pills. I usually have to take a stool softener to get any action down there.

dubyadd 2012-12-02 06:33:57 -0600 Report

The psyillium fiber like metamucil is a soluble fiber and is a mechanical solution to constipation whereas a stool softener is a chemical solution which your body will get used to and then you will have to take more of it to get the same effect. Once you find the correct amount and how many times a day to take the fiber it should be constant over time. I found that 3 heaping tablespoons /day kept me working very regular and I have been taking the same amount for over 10 years with no increase. This fiber has about 3 grams of soluable fiber/ tsp so 3 heaping tbsp = 4 tsp x 3=12 tsp x 3 grams fiber=36 grams of fiber. Taking enough fiber should eliminate any need for a stool softener completely. Work up slowly to higher levels of fiber as it can cause gas a stomach discomfort, but once you have gotten there you should have no problems

I also had the dizziness with it and extreme tiredness all the time, they never found out why I had it …had upper & lower GI and found nothing. Have your doctor check your blood count too Good Luck

isn't the constipation from the iron pills the Pits?

Katie2013 2012-11-26 12:50:54 -0600 Report

Not at all. The old type yes, but these I have work wonderfully, NEVER constipated ever. They are prescription. Not over the counter.

jayabee52 2012-11-26 15:25:20 -0600 Report

mine are prescription also, but they plug me up tighter than a swiss watch unless I take the stool softener daily.

What is the compound contained in the prescription?

Howdy Sally

I am type 2 and have been Dx'd with anemia. Of course the source of my anemia comes from the fact that I am a kidney patient, which often includes anemia. Yes I get dizzy and get to the point that I get nauseous and throw up. I also feel tired and weak, sometimes I just can't pick my feet up enough to keep from tripping on the floor. I also get brain fog.

Fortunately for me I do not have to be at work all day. My previous bout with dialysis has put me on disability.

You might wish to ask your Dr to check your kidney functions while s/he is at it to tell how your kidneys are doing.

Praying your anemia can be resolved easily. (I am taking iron pills).
