OOPS!! My previous posting that I addressed to "Riley" should have gone to "Patchman." Hey, just you wait until you get to 68 years of age!! LOL I apologize for my confusion. I think our 30 degree temp. this morning froze my brain.

Hi Riley,

I saw and enjoyed snow in Cowtown (Fort Worth, TX) many times. I lived there for 30 years and still own a home there. It's in the southwest part of the city, in Wedgwood where we have an oil lease! My 32 year old son now lives in that house, 1/2 block from Wedgwood Middle School. We visit there often.

In case you're close to that area, there is a hill beside Southwest High School that you can slide down when it snows. We really enjoyed that. We used cardboard for sleds then bought a plastic one that you could control, which was better. We also used a round plastic dish, sort of like a big Frisbee, and vehicle tire inner tubes as sleds. You have no control with those things!

During your recent snow, my son lost electricity for about 12 hours! Surely that wasn't enough snow/ice to bring the power lines down. Probably some nut slid off the street & knocked a power pole down.

One thing I did learn about Fort Worth, when there is an ice storm that coats the streets with solid ice, don't drive!! You have no traction. Probably 90% of the drivers there don't know how to navigate on ice (or snow) and they end up parking in the strangest of places - in fields, creeks, in store fronts, and many in stranger's yards at the bottom of hills!

In your next snow you might drive out to Benbrook Lake, on the east side by the dam, in the park that overlooks the lake. It's a beautiful view, especially when the sun is setting over the lake.

I hope we get to meet you & PrettyBoy24 some day!

Had snow on Christmas Day in North Texas. Originally from Chicago, liked the snow for Christmas.

Please see my previous posting that I mistakenly addressed to Riley. I am the nut that lived in Fort Worth for 30 years. Hey, my brain is now working - I do know that I'm in New Braunfels, TX now! LOL We should be in Fort Worth soon for a visit.

I grew up in Chicago, north side, but now live in the southwest suburbs. We didn't see any snow for Christmas this year, I missed it. Where in Chicago did you live?

I am originally from Rodgers Park and then moved to Park Forest, then Bloomingdale. Now I live near Fort Worth. Thanks for asking.

When I lived in the Northeast, I loved downhill skiing and just talking walks in the snow…seeing the sparkle, smelling that crisp air and hearing the crunch of snow under my feet.
I do miss that since I now live in Florida (82 degrees today) but I don't miss driving in the sleet or on the black ice!

I was looking through that book before I got it for you and it looked like alot of good stuff in there, and I enjoyed that crock pot book as well. I hope you like them, and I can't wait to try out everything that you make in the kitchen!

Aaah, I live in the mountains and when it snows here it's like a magical place, like God just cleansed everything. Everything is white, the tallest pine trees you can imagine, it's amazing I am leaving my leave for days like these so I can stay home, look outdoors and make a nice stew! I add everything and just won't eat the potatoes! I also have sugar free hot chocolate with sugar free cool whip! Nice thick flannel pjs and a good book, what a way to go!!!

Call me odd, but I actually liked shoveling snow. It was like a weightlifting session. Got a lot of my best exercise in winter because I enjoyed just walking around in the snow. I didn't become diabetic until after I moved out of snow country, but it was always my favorite food time because it meant all sorts of soups and stews (and of course grilling in the snow was a challenge, but we did it). You got me a little homesick now.

My all time favorite winter activity is watching someone else shovel my sidewalk. Winter is when I catch up on all of my reading, do jigsaw puzzles and watch movies.

My favorite is ginger cookies or Jewish Apple Cake with a mug of hot cocoa and a good book. I warm the cake before eating it. I have not made them since I was diagnosed. This winter I am going to be on You Tube learning how to make wire wrapped rings.

You're going to have to give me that recipe for Jewish Apple cake Joyce.
