Constant dry mouth

I was diagnosed in August 2012 and have not adjusted. I have a continuous dry mouth that makes me obsessive. Drinking diet soda is counterproductive and water doesn't cut it either. What can I eat/drink to make this unbearable dry mouth dissipate?

Biotene gum works wonders for me. It hasn't been available for the last few weeks. I emailed GlaxoSmith Kline to determine the problem. Product availability is the cause, and they anticipate the gum to become available in September. In the meantime, I keep gel in my handbag and by the bedside.

Biotene makes a gel that you can use at night so at least you get relief when you sleep. It only costs a few dollars and is available over the counter in pharmacies, grocery and discount stores. Give it a try, it works for me.

I have often wondered about these products. Have you used the mouth wash or tooth paste? How are they for making your mouth feel fresh and clean?

do you use a straw with what you drink? my mom does, and her lips stay dry at times because of mouth and lips get dry at times and i stay thirsty…so i have 2 diffrent bottles of water on hand.a 20 ounce bottle and a 1QT bottle..that keeps my lips n mouth wet enough for me when i take a drink of water.i love beef jerky every once in a while i'll keep a small piece of it between my gum n cheek just to keep my mouth wet..

There are a few over the counter medications that can help. Ask your local pharmacist. I have dry mouth too because of the side effects of the medicine that I take.

My husband and I have dry mouth all the time, we drink plenty of waters. It is a flavored water, we mixed kiwi strawberry with key lime that seems to take care it, there is no calories or anything in it. We keep it on hand all of the time.

Diabetes and medications can both cause dry mouth and you want to find out which is the cause. Dry mouth from diabetes is usually because your levels are high. Your body could be telling you to drink.

I find that coconut water helps me when I get really dry. Much better than water. Even though it has few carbs, you can't drink it like water (unlimited) but drinking about a cup of it spread out through the day does help me.

I know her personally and her fasting AMs are usually in "normal" range. I encourage her to chew sf gum or to suck on a sf hard candy.

she was reading this earlier and complained she does not like coconut at all.

She is also the one who does not eat veggies (except corn - IMO not a veggie or sauerkraut. >)

Chewing gum is a good alternative. I have to resort to that on long trips when I don't want to make potty breaks.

I have sugarless gum on hand all the time. It helps even in church, and other places where drinking water is not acceptable. It is very helpful.

just put her on a plane this AM to go back to Milwaukee from here in Las Vegas. I packed gum and hard candies to keep her from dry mouth.

Klonopin also helps if you have burning mouth syndrome

Lentyl 2012-11-21 14:24:38 -0600 Report

Klonopin is a serious medication with even more seirous side effects. From what I've read, as well as having known a person taking Klonopin, it is habit-forming after six months of use. I'd be careful about suggersting it or taking it.

If you got the sores on your tongue that I get, you wouldn't care if you got addicted to the medication. The pain is so bad, you will do anything to make it better and this is the only thing I have found that works.

How have your numbers been? If you're blood sugars are high, it can cause the same thing. Is this also maybe a side effect from your meds? You might want to bring this up tp ypur doctor.

Get some of listerine dry mouth mouthwash. Drink A LOT of water (6-8 cups a day), make sure you have moisturized lips because that can cause dry mouth too.
