If you don't have a photo loaded, here are some step-by-step instructions.

Keep in mind, your profile picture can be of you or of anything that represents your personality, likes, or interests.

Step one is to find the image you want to use and save it on your computer.

Step two is login to your Diabetic Connect account. (The login button is in the upper right corner of every page.)

Step three is to go to your profile page. (The link to your profile is also at the top of each page next to the friends, tracked items, and inbox links.)

On your profile page, click the link under the green default image that says "Update Your Profile Picture."

Under the instruction line "Select a file from your computer," look for and click on the "Browse" button. This will open a little window that allows you to look at the files on your computer. Locate the image you want to add to your profile and click the "Open" button.

The small window will close and you'll be back on the profile picture page. You need to click the box certifying that you are have the rights to distribute the picture (in other words, it's your image) and that it doesn't violate the terms of use of the site. Then click the upload picture button.

You'll then get a page that will allow you to crop and resize your photo. The smaller image on the left shows you how your picture will appear to the community. After you've finished cropping your photo, click Save and Continue at the bottom.

If everything has worked correctly, you should see your picture appear at the left side under the "Current Profile Picture" heading.

If you have questions, post them here and we'll answer.

That's a good question. We sent out an email explaining that those who have a profile picture tend to receive more friend requests and better responses to discussions or questions that they post. People seem to like to put a "face" with a name. Even if the picture is simply something that represents your hobbies or personality, it helps others understand a little more about you.

I already have my picture uploaded, but thanks for reminding me of the contest. I did go to my profile and checked all my statistics to make sure everything was up to date.

I'll post the winners on Monday.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend having your full email address as your display name. It could easily be picked up by spammers who search the internet for any email addresses.

I can get that changed for you. Just send me an inbox message with what you'd like it changed to.

Not a vote actually. It's just a random drawing of all those who have a profile picture loaded by Friday before midnight.

John, I do have a picture but it is my cat. Should I put a picture of me or will my cat do?

A picture of your cat is fine. We just want to give members more of a chance to make a connection with each other. A cat picture will certainly help you to connect with the many many cat lovers we have on the site :-)

Hey, thanks John! I really appreciate the tutorial. Maybe now I won't have to bug my hubby for help with this kind of stuff! I hope I win!
