Has anyone else gone thru or going thru Gallstones? I had a scan a couple of days ago and I have a 34 mm stone. I have had a few episodes of attacks which are extremely unpleasant but not sure whether to go thru surgery.

Hi Raewyn,
Have you consulted your doctor about this? I think the best advice I could give you would to be talk to your doctor. You can also use HealthTap to get more information from doctors. It's free and you can see doctor ratings on there too. http://bit.ly/WbCC3i I hope you get the advice you want and need from your doctor. Good luck!

Thanks, appreciate the advice. Certainly is something to take time considering. Lots of information around to help.

howdy Raewyn

I have not experienced gallstones myself but my gf SuzyQ has had them.

It depends on what type of surgery they want to do on you, IMHO.

If they want to just remove the stone perhaps you could have it taken out with not a lot of disruption it would be OK. If however they want to take the gall bladder, I would think twice before submitting to that.

In fact, if it were me, I ask if there were some non-surgical methods of dealing with the problem. After all there is a saying: "if the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks to you like a nail!" The surgeon's only tool often times is surgery, so surgery is often their answer for most everything.

Suzy has had her gall bladder removed. Now she has the bitter taste of bile in her mouth from time to time.
Sure to treat it without surgery may take some time and you probably have pain from it until it gets dislodged from your bile duct, but on the other hand you will have pain resulting from the surgery, so there is a trade off for speed of the solution of your problem.

You have to decide for yourself. But were I facing the same problem I'd opt to see if there's be a non surgical method to the problem, even if it took some time for it to clear up.
