I know this is not a good thing, but what do we do if we have a craving so bad, that we would go out to the store and buy enough to binge out on? Is there something sweet that can be kept in the house, that you could have to curb and gratify satisfaction at the same time.

I keep some of the small containers of sugar free Jello and puddings around for times like this, as well sugar free popsicles. There are sugar free candies and ice cream that taste great too. The sugar free cookies are not as good, of course, because of the carbs. I know what you mean about getting that urge every now and then.

I have tried the sugar free popsycles, and other products such as that; he can not stop until they are gone. I know some of the things I get are calorie, sugar and carb free but he is not usually interested. I try to buy the lowest sugar and carb cereals and prepackage them; I buy fruit; I buy all the right mayo, butter , cheese, salad dressings to cook with. I use the Wadens salad dressing for marinating. I do everything humanly posible; he has a problem, and when I am in bed, he will eat. thanks:->)lilmarm

I make "ice cream sandwiches"
2 reduced fat graham crackers
2 spoons SF non-fat cool whip.
Put 2 spoons cool whip on graham cracker and place the other graham cracker on top. Wrap and freeze. They are so good and low in calorie. Really taste like an ice cream sandwich…Debe

I understand you want to do everything possible for him but ultimately it is up to him to take the responsiblity. If he is able. if not, it sounds like you are doing all you can. My other suggestion is when I crave chocalate I eat the Special K cereal called chocolate delight. It satisfies those cravings. Also when I want something salty I eat either roasted almonds or baked lays potato chips. My one snack food I love is popcorn. I buy those smart size bags and it gives me enough till to satisfy my need for snacking. But I have found the more and more control I get the snacking urge is going away. I would rather eat healthier and smarter and save the carbs for "Real Food". Plus I found if I stay busy I snack or want to less. I am on this site,I play online games, I craft, I read and clean the house. Hope some of this help.

I thought she was talking about herself when I replied. Being it's her hubby, he definitely needs to be the one to be "in charge" of his health issues. Like most women we feel responsible for everyone in our family. Because we love them we want to do all we can do help them, which is normal and commendable. The operative word in that last sentence is "help" them. As hard as you try, you cannot help him if he isn't willing to help himself. Don't beat yourself up over it. Perhaps, as is often the case with our kids, a little "tough love" seems to be in order. Good luck to both of you. Just continue to be there for him and let him know how you feel about his attitude.
