i have type 1 diabetes and I switched endocrinologists due to my insurance and my new doctor doesn't adjust my pump dosages for me, so I was wondering if anyone knew how I do this on my own. How do I formulate a good basal rate on my pump for me? I think my dosages now are way to low.

Have you asked the doc why he doesnt do it for you? Maybe he assumes you already know how. Tell him/her you dont know how to adjust it and to show you

This is what I do when I notice a pattern of too many highs when I know I shouldn't be high, or too many lows: http://static.diabetesselfmanagement.com/pdfs...
I usually do this over a period of about a week or so. You can use different time, whatever fits your schedule, this just gives a basic outline of how to test your basal rates.

There's also another really good book that was recommened to me years ago when I first started on an insulin pump: Pumping Insulin by John Walsh and Ruth Roberts. It has wonderful infomation to help you really dial in your settings.

There is a good book you can buy it is called Smart Pumping from American Diabetes Association it adjust to the pump you have. I bought it in Amazon when I had the pump if you likelook up the book and search inside it to see if you like it. The best way to take care of yourself is to become your own researcher and know your body.
