I can eat some Barilla whole wheat pasta and Dreamfields, love them. feel bad for those that can't, I have to be careful with corn and a few other things too, half of my diet almost is whole grains, never have tried to stay off them. Great that you have noticed such a difference!

Just went for my checkup since 9/12 I lost 23lbs the dr was amazed at my cholesterol count being 61 and I was on 1000mgs of metformin 2 times a day and 10mg of glyburide twice a day…I was taken off the glyburide because the dr. checked my meter and my readings which I test 2 times a day were very low running an average of 79. The dr mentioned patients she had that also experienced quick weight loss and lower readings when they had quit all wheat products…bread pasta etc. Enjoy your day.

Congrats!! I love reading success stories. That is so interesting to me, because wheat doesnt do that to me, I eat some whole wheat a few times a week. But I know it is not for everyone. I too had around the same amount of weight to lose in the beginning, about 35 for me. I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago too next month. will check for the weight loss update. I hope your numbers stay really good!

I know certain pasta give me a sugar spike worse than a piece of candy so stay away. I took notice or the carbphydrates and sugars are over 42 mg in some wheat/grain pastas. if I do eat pasta I am sure to add plenty of veges. Congrats on the weight loss!!

Never had a problem with pasta and my blood glucose, corn, beans and rice are a different story indeed! (Not to mention broccoli and carrots!)

I don't have a problem with corn, beans and rice. I eat very little rice and pasta because I can spike a little.

I can't eat pasta of any sort, my BG goes haywire if I do and takes a couple days for it to stabilize, which sucks beyond belief since pasta is my favorite food. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water and stomach growl…ummm pasta, *drool*

have you tried the "Dreamfields" pasta?

DeanaG 2012-10-13 15:29:58 -0500 Report

I love Dreamfields pasta. Tastes great and my blood sugar doesn't go over 120 after eating it!!
Your mileage may vary. ;-)

I quit all wheat products a little over 3 years ago. A1C went from 14.1 to 5.9 in less than 4 months. Fasting blood sugar went from 366 to almost normal numbers in less than 2 months. It works. A1C has remained at 6 or less for over 3 years now.

Thanks for your post it seems too easy but it really works and easier than I thought being italian and brought up on pasta and crusty Italian bread but it wasn't only downfall is the money I have to spend on new clothes…enjoy your day

All wheat products? does that include whole grain as well? I am type 1 but if this plan helped you to lower your blood sugars and drop some weight it can't hurt to try. Thanks for the tip

I found that even whole grains spiked my blood sugar, had to give it all up. No bread or pasta or anything made of flour or grains for over 3 years now.

Libra1969 2012-10-14 13:45:29 -0500 Report

just curious, did you stop eating any bread at all and pasta or just the whole grain and or wheat? and if so what did you replace it with if anything??

Kirla 2012-10-21 09:23:05 -0500 Report

Stopped eating all bread and any kind of food made with flour of any kind with the exception of soy flour for over 2 years. Recently been using low carb wraps and pita bread. I made a decision right after being diagnosed to not eat any food with more than 5-6 net carbs per serving. It’s worked well for me. The low carb wraps and pita bread both have less than 5 net carbs per serving.

I buy mime from BJS in upstate NY. Never bought any from the sites above. I only post as an example. You can click on nutrition and see the label.

Not sure if I recommend to eat or not. Blood sugar control hasn’t been as good, since I started eating these. Been struggling a bit the last year. A1C has been around 6.0 for the last year or so. Maybe it’s the wraps and pita bread. Then again I really don’t know. Gained some weight and had some stress during the last year. Some things we may never be able to figure out.
