What are the most common questions you have been asked about having diabetes?

Having had Type 1 for over 35 years (currently age 37), I have heard some humdinger questions concerning the condition. I thought I would throw this out to the group to see what theirs are. For me the most common is
"oh you have diabetes, that means you can't eat sugar doesn't it?"
Followed closely by
"oh you must have been overweight as a kid"
Would love to hear yours, and if you want further favorites of mine, I posted them here (don't click on it if you think I am trying to be self promoting as it just saves me retyping all the time)… http://www.curediabetesblog.com/2012/uncatego...

What I love is not the questions but the "look" you get. You know the one, the raised eye brow when you have a scoop of ice cream or the agape mouth when you eat a cookie. To me, those are the more priceless moments. Mostly because I don't have to defend anything and I can just laugh inside at what they might be thinking.

I usually get, oh how much weight did you have to lose. The worst part about this is that this is from individuals who had seen me before and knew I hadn't lost any weight as a T1.

I am trying to remember. One comment I have gotten a lot is " You can't eat anything with sugar in it at all." Another one is " I see…you must need to lose quite a bit of weight, then." A very very common one I have heard is " If you are not on insulin everyday, there's very very very little wrong with you. Let me tell you, I knew a person that was REALLY a diabetic, for real, and he was on insulin from day 1." Ha, ha, ha. Another one I have heard is " Oh, there's no way so -and-so is diabetic, he looks good and strong..all diabetics look very weak." ANNE

I get the same questions. Mostly, can you eat that, it has sugar in it. Or, do you have diabetes because you are overweight.. Yesterday, I did get into a discussion with a guy at a grocery store. My friend & I were discussing eating fruit and having Diabetes. This guy decided to step in saying.. Fruit isn't sugar, you can eat all you want. His next words were.. I should know, I am a diabetic and I eat 9 -10 pieces of fruit a day. I said, hows that working for you.. He said, well, my sugars are very well managed. My BS are always around 240. I chuckled and said, you need a new doctor and you need to be educated about Diabetes. I told him to check out DC. He replied with no thanks, I am fine. He said I was crazy and didn't know anything.

The only questions I get are can you eat this. I get hilarious comments. One of the officers kissed me on the cheek and asked if I would go into sugar shock. Another told me that being around him could cause hyperglycemia. The other night at a meeting a guy walked in the room and said all the diabetics better leave because pure sugar just walked through the door.

I get the same questions! "oh you used to be fat" or the " u can't eat that it has sugar". I hate hearing that and I have been a type 1 for 5 and a half years. I totally understand.
