Today I took my daughter to the obstetrician and while I was waiting I saw something that piqued my interest.
I noticed a patient who was about to leave had an insulin pump, but that's not really caught me, it was her tattoo.
On her calf she had a caduceus and underneath it she had her blood type, that she was type 1 and her birth date. This gave me the idea of getting something like that done for myself, since if I ever collapse the basic need to know info is right there in full view. So what's your thoughts…good idea, or going overboard?

I don't really understand your link? How would a fake note from a doctor have anything to do with this?

Now, I imagine there are certain colors that might cause trouble with our skin. There is something in a green on one my husband has that when it is combined with sun screen and sun, it blisters up a little.

If you choose a reputable tattoo parlor that only uses clean needles and disposable cups of ink that are only used on you, you can drastically reduce the risk of illness or injury. You do have to wise in your selection, but I have not heard that it causes skin cancer.

I think it is a great idea, i'm gonna get one myself. It's a good way to show and if something happens it's also safe and other people can see directly what the problem is.

If that worried, then wear alert wear of any type, even if you just pin it on your clothes. Also keep a diabetic card in your wallet in view. I have one next to my ID, since your ID will be looked for if alone. Unless you put the tat in an obvious place that won't be covered up or on arm should they do a bp first, then who knows how long it may take for them to see it.

While I would put certain things on there, you want to be careful not to put too much private info where it can be that easily seen. But I have to agree. Tattoos are a great way to do this. I have often thought of putting one on my chest (in case of loss of limb in an accident) There are a few members here whose profile pics are their tattoos. Some very nice ones I must say.

I have seriously been considering getting one done on the inside of my wrist.
I jokingly told my kids I should get it on my chest, that way if I lose my limbs I would still have my medic alert, they didn't find it amusing. ;-p
