Knowing what you know now…

What do you wish you had known before being diagnosed? Is there any information you wish you had access to?

If I knew then what I know now, I would have exercised more and cut the carbs out of my diet.

same here!!I would not have drank that sweet tea, a glass nearly everyday, or every other day at dinner. I live in the South, and we love our sweet tea! When i think about how I drank that and most mornings had a small glass of orange juice too!! not to mention some other things during the day. It just about makes me ill to thnk about what I used to do.

There's many pieces of information that I wish I had known before my diagnosis but one item in particular stands out. Armed with the truth about the high carb diet, I might not need to be diabetic.

After the event, an early explanation of the significance of the blood glucose levels would have helped. I did a lot of homework while I lay in hospital. An explanation of how the medication I was given was supposed to work would also have been useful.

On the other hand, doing my own homework did teach me many things that I might not otherwise have known!
