Well met with my new doctor this afternoon, I am starting Metformin tomorrow, twice a day. I am going in for some labs and than I will be starting a one a day insulin injection as well. I do not have insurance so I was so concerned about the medication cost, my metformin was only $4 but the insulin I do not know what that expense will be. Now I have to work on my eating habbits and start really watching what I am eating. Thank you all so much for the encouragement… I love my new family:))

Welcome to DC. I was on Metformin when I was diagnosed in April, then to XR and finally had to be changed because of stomach problems with it. I am now on Glyburide which doesn't bother my stomach at all. Let your doctor know the side effects you are having and see what he or she suggests. As far as the insulin, if you don't have insurance there are programs that will help with the cost. Accu chek has a patient assistance program the link is

The next program is a lower cost way to get your testing strips. There are 2 programs that I have.

there are sites that help with insulin but I don't have them but you can do an internet search and find help if you need it. Hope this helps with some of the problems. HUGS

I have been taking different insulins (trying different kinds) with my doctor to see which one works well with me. You didn't mention what type of insulin you are starting. Insulins prices vary. I would call your local Walmart first, they seem to be a bit cheaper than pharmacys. Also, I found the vials to be cheaper than the pre filled pens. I have purchased both vials and pens in the past. It depends on which type you have to take. I have now tried 5 different insulins.. All different prices. Ranging from moderate priced to extremely high (over 800.00) for 1 vial. Insane… Yes!! The drug companies are making a fortune off of all of us.. I found doing the research helps. Good Luck. Hugz.
