So many people suffer lonliness during the Holidays I thought this would be a good time to ask all the members on this site to take a moment to acknowledge all our friends by sending them greetings and telling others we are thinking of them, during the Holiday Season, it might just bring a smile to a very lonly Person. May I be the first to wish all my friends, and all others on this site, that They all are wished a happy Holiday, and they will be in my thoughts and Prayers, I Offer all MY BEST ROBERT

Because of dysfunctional family members and other sad and unfortunate things that have taken place, I will be spending Christmas alone as well. My children and grandchildren are not close by, or near each other, and it's very hard to get together during the holidays. I am very much involved in volunteer work, however, as well as church activities, so I do stay busy and spend time celebrating the "reason for the season". For years the commercialism has turned me off, but I love the special meaning that this time of year holds for me and Christians everywhere. We have much to be joyous and thankful for, altho we sometimes forget that. I will be praying that we all have a very Merry Christmas and that 2009 will hold better health and more happiness for each of us.

Well said, It would be nice to have an old fashion christmas again, where only a few gifts were expected, and usually hand made, but Christ was the celebration. But how we have forgotten that.I won't in my house, and all the members of this site will be prayed for ,But Lady Di, I wish you a very special .and Holy Christmas, and a Healthy New Year Robert

Christmas is the happiest time of the year for me. I git to go to my daughter Liz's on the 24th and come back on the 25th. Over a day with her and her 3 kids. Nicole 17, Lilly 7 and Mikey 6. It is the only time all year I get to go visit them. Merry Christmas All! Cara

Happy Holidays to all of you. I love this time of year, I try to look for all the events that are taking place in the community. My son is older but I still go to see Santa Clause. I finish decorating the outside of my house, next weekend I am going to put up my tree.

I will also be alone like it's been since 1993. I don't decorate for two reasons: one it would really hurt me emotionally and the other is don't have decorations and can't afford them.

I think the idea of volunteering to serve or help pass out presents to the needy is great for feeling less lonely and it is always better to give of your time. You also could volunteer to read to the children at Day cares or schools in your area.
For all of us here on this forum I wish the best holidays wishes to you. My prayers are with us all that we find happiness in all that we do. We are an extended family from all over the world and posting pictures and cards would be a very nice thing to do. I put up my tree on Thanksgiving. I will take a picture and post. It is nothing fancy but loaded down with lights and ornaments. Everyone have a Blessed Thanksgiving and Very Happy Holidays to all!!

P.s. We need a special place to put all these pictures. Like a section for pictures. And if you have people or pets in the pictures let us know we they are so we can get to know our "family" members better. What do you all think of that idea?

My heart goes out to you. I too am alone this year. My son ran away six months ago and I've been having a pretty emotional time as the holidays approach. I've put some decorations up early this year and I'm trying to find a charity that may need a volunteer. I'm sure the Salvation Army or similar organization will need some help serving the holiday meals. It may actually be the best thing to do because it will get me out and in contact with others. I think this could be cathardic during such a painful and lonely time. It will allow me to be with others and know we are not really alone after all. It's hard to feel that way when you isolate yourself and live in the past. I think giving to others helps heal the soul. It feels good to give and the recipients feel cared for and get pleasure from it as well. I also thought it would be nice to splurge with a glass of wine and a rented movie and popcorn. Of course the tears will come during this time but thats part of healing and taking care of ourselves. But having something planned for youself can help you look forward to some special time on those days even if you are alone! Plan something you think you may get pleasure from. It's helped me in the past to prepare for these days. It really does take some of the sting out of being alone. I wish you the very best and will think of you during this season. I will be thinking of you.

Speaking for myself, I pray for all my friends here on a daily basis for better health and happiness. Please do not feel that you are "really" alone, you are not!

A support system such as diabetic connect, is not just a message board, I honestly feel that we are one big family and are a part of each other in both being happy and being sad.

I love your idea Mary, I will be posting some holiday photos as I am able to take them.

God Bless.

Thank you BarryE. I Love Christmas,I decorate my house, Almost every room, I have a real Tree, that I decorate with a lot of old ornaments. I light candles. and play music and I sit and admire it all, but then the tears come because there is no one here to share it with

2008-11-24 16:19:10 -0600 Report

Take pics and post them here and share them with us. I know it's not the same as someone being there in person, but at least we would also be able to enjoy the decorations, too. I know the loneliness feeling, I'm alone too.
