I spent the day with my endo. I'm finally going to get an insulin pump. Any input welcomed…

Debe,
So sorry, with the holiday, I somehow missed your request for information.

That is so exciting that you're considering the pump. Going on the pump has been great for my son. The freedom and convenience have been great.

We chose the Deltec Cozmo pump. At the time, it was the only pump that would calculate insulin dosages for you. You simply program in what your insulin to carb ratios are and then tell it how many carbs you're eating and it gets the dosage right. Also, it allows dosing in 1/10th of a unit increments. This precision has helped as we've tried to fine tune the basal rates.

I will say that the pump is not perfect. In some ways, I think it has lead to some laziness on my son's part. It's so easy to just hit the little bolus button that I think he can be too casual about counting carbs.

Also, because the pump is more complex than simply using a syringe, there are more things that can go wrong. I wrote a discussion about some of the risks you do need to be aware of with the pump. Here's a link:

Hope that helps.

Whatever pump you get, you're gonna love it! Pump choice is an individual thing. Check with your endo as sometimes they will have some around the office you can play with. My diabetes educator is also a pump trainer and has every model out there right now. They may have some where you can do a saline trial.
Each pump has little difference that some may prefer over others.
