Does anyone have any testing tips? I find that I get higher readings in my left hand (could be my imagination) so I normally test my right hand. I was sick last week and experiencing some highs (350-400) and I tested alot. These highs caused me to collect myself and start eating healthy and doing my corrections the right way. So now I'm testing alot more. My fingers are soooo sore!

Mine also have higher reading when I use my left fingers. I normally use the right ones. Don't use the arm…tried it once…didn't like it. Yes use the sides of the fingers it won't hurt as much or for as long. If you have trouble getting enough blood for a sample try using a rubberband around your finger before you lance.

I've found that if I use the heel of my hand (down underneath the pinky across from the base of the thumb) it hurts alot less. When my sugar is high though I will check on my fingers even though I hate it because that's where it hurts me most.

Hi lisa, I test on the sides of my fingers with alternate fingers or on my arm. I asked my doctor about testing on my arm. You need a lancing device that comes with the tip for arm testing. I get different results on different hands and my arm but as long as the numbers are in the range they should be, I don't worry about it.

I also wash my hands in warm water with regular soap. Alcohol, and antibacterial soaps can change the reading. Warm water softens the skin and causes blood to flow better in your fingers. Cold water retracts blood vessels.

I had a cold and all I could eat for a few days was a bowl of soup and I experienced lows a lot. Then when I felt better I had highs because I was making up for the food I couldn't eat. Now when I have a cold I eat soup or crackers or something light to keep my blood sugar on track.

Glad that you are eating right because that with exercise helps to control blood sugar. Good Luck.
