My name is Ryan and I am 37 years old. I just joined this group and I am looking for people who want to help me with my diabetes. I have been having problems and struggle with getting motivated to take care of myself. I feel like I am fighting a losing battle. Any suggestions.

Welcome, Ryan!! Im new here too so maybe we can learn some stuff together. For years i was in denial that it was gonna hurt me. Boy was i wrong! I now have ulcers on my foot that have developed cellulitis. Ive been on antibiotics and continue to treat them with a topical. Im concerned now that its im my bloodstream since ive developed a large red spot on my left leg. My right one has the ulcers. Hind sight being what it is, i now wish i would have controlled my sugars sooner. Might i mention, too, that this is very painful. Good luck to you.

Being here is a great step in the right direction. It shows that you want to do something for yourself.

Something that helps me is just choosing one thing to focus on. Pick one. Maybe even start with a simple one you know you can do, that can be a great motivation to keep feeling good about what you are doing. For me, when I started, and now again as I climb out of a "don't care" time, I am focusing on my carb intake. Low carb intake equals better numbers for me because I am so insulin resistant.

Once you have your fist hurdle in sight and are overcoming it, pick another. But just one at a time, and before you know it, you have run a lap and you have the energy to keep going.

I saw in another post that your wife also struggles with high sugar. I know for me, having someone to partner with is a huge help. It can also be a huge downer if you are not on the same page. I have a friend who is diabetic and we keep each other honest. We are not afraid to ask how we are doing and offer help when we need it.

I agree with Jo, education is the best weapon in this battle. You are not alone in this battle.
