Going into The Taste of Douglas County BG 94 at 5. At 6:30 it was 108. At 7 it was 122 and at 7:30 it was 114.
Had lots of fun with The Cake Lady, niece, and hubby. Samples were very good. Avoided the carb laden choices like rice pudding, muffins, and pastas. Walked all over about 30 times fetching goodies for The Cake Lady.
Hope I win tickets next year!

Finally have time to reply, sorry it's taken a few days.
The Asian style tostada was great from a local place. Should be able to duplicate it. Teriyaki ginger shreded chicken, topped with shredded cabbage and carrots. Then it had a very mild sauce that they said was Chipolte. Must not have used much because it wasn't hot tasting. Might try changing up my coleslaw mix with their twist and skip the won ton shell.
OK chicken from the India place. Some of the spices disagreed with my palate, but overall the taste was OK.
Took two or three sips of a really good smoothie. But it just made me miss the ones I used to make pre diagnosis long before I knew bananas make my BG spike like crazy.
Then there wer Grilled mushrooms stuffed with shrimp and cheese. When I called the radio food show to thank them for the tickets the host (who started the event) told me that about a dozen of them were left after the show. If I had only known then there would have been zero left.
There were salmon skewers, seasoned with lemon and red pepper and basted with butter. This were good and I am not usually a salmon fan.
Favorite restaurant(s) - chick-fil-A, sampled their spicy chicken. They are a family favorite anad many get togethers have oodles of their nuggets, since most of the nieces and nephews worked their during high school years.
The Black Eyed Pea - the corned beef sliders where great, of course I went bunless.
Like Applebees - But had to pass at the event since their taste was a pasta thing :(
Favorite bad indulgence - Purple Ginger's chicken in a sweet sauce sort of a sesame or General. Only had two or three bites. Sesame chicken is my downfall every time. I really need to figure out a safe version for me…sigh..too bad I am still banned from the kitchen.
Unusual ( for me) the spinach cheese from India"s Castle. Not really a fan of food from India. Except my friend Annie from India has made and shared some very good dishes. There are just some spices my system does not like. Unfortunately the spinach cheese dish had a few of them.

Alright what was your favorite restaurant? What was the most unusual food you tried? What absolutely knocked your socks off? Is there anything you are going to try and make?

Sounds like fun, and your discipline is awesome. A taste is all we need sometimes!

I can't beleive I was able to hand off the Brownie sample after just a nibble. Sure it was a tad too moist…but it was chocolate that can cover a multitude of sins.

YIPPPEEEE… I am so glad you had fun. You know all that walking you did helped with your carb count. If I am going somewhere like the fair, I don't worry too much about carb intake because I am doing a lot of walking. So a piece of funnel cake doesn't hurt me if it is the first thing I eat because I am going to walk all over the fair which could be 2.5 miles or more. I burn up calories and carbs.

I should have used my pedometer to know how much ground I actually covered.
Funnel cake…maybe the gaps help let the carbs leak out.

Yes I had a very good time until the car died. At least it waited until just after dropping The Cake Lady off at her apartment.Leaving us illegally parked in the No Parking Zone Loading and Unloading Only area. Security drove past us about 3 to 4 times while we arranged for a tow and waited for the tow.
The restraunt people were very understanding when I asked for the meat with no bread for the philly cheesesteak sandwich, the corned beef slider, and the meatball. I just took the taco from one booth, they had a good assemble line going. Then simply dumped the filling out and Hubby at the cornshell with some salsa.

Luckily the desserts weren't as tempting as I dreaded. I had a teensy taste of a brownie. Hubby finished it off. The gluten free baked goods had thei ingredients listed, all contained rice flour and oat flour, which make for higher carb counts usually than white all purpose flour. So passing them by wasn't very difficult.
Tried a lick of the Italian Ice and all I tasted was red dye (check out the photo of The Cake Lady and her Grand Daughter to see how red the dye was). Hubby polished it off for me.
Had about two sips of a very nice Pina Colada smoothy. Could taste the Banana, so knew my limit. They said it had no added sugar just fruit.

Graylin, I use to go to this function called 100 Men Can Cook. It was men who were judges, lawyers, teachers, coaches, tv reporters, etc. Most of the samples were food not too many sweets. The foods were delicious and a lot was healthy for you. They had it set up with meats, seafood, veggies and sweets so even a diabetic could have had a lot of choices.

Sounds like a fun function to go to. Here it was all jumbled together. But the presenters were very agreeable to leave off buns, taco shells, etc. So I was able to be as picky as I desired. The only thing I didn't get to try that I would have liked to was The Outbacks salad. The dressing was already mixed into the entire amount they brought to the event. So I passed.
