Hi! I have been reading your messages and recipes. First the recipes look so wonderful. But some of them have sugars etc. Also I'm to only have 30 to 45 carbs. Is that what most are to have? Right now my blood surar is 232. I had white rice 1/2cup/ spam 1oz/ peas 1/2 cup /1 cup milk also a tomatoe small. this all totaled 47 carbs. I have been trying to follow the chart given to me by the dieation. I have not been able to get my sugars down but once it was 130.
I want to talk about how my other medical problems will affect my diabetis when would that be ok to do.

Hi, I was diagnosed Type 2, almost the same day, 2 years ago! My legs & feet hurt 24/7 for several years. My bs was 280. within 2 weeks of insulin, my legs & feet stopped achng!!!! I was soooo happy. In this case, bad news was good! If you want to keep your legs & feet, try to stop eating anything WHITE - including rice, flour, sugar, pasta, potatoes. If you are really up for a challenge, learn about the Glycemic Index so that you understand how white rice affects how your body processes glucose. I know that this time of year is really difficult, so start 2009 with a mission to feel better by managing your blood sugar! Good Luck!

I don't have insurance so I don't have the benefit of a dietician, or anything like that. I read everything I can. I have pain and numbness on the right side. i'm mostly under 200, but I seem to be creeping up.

Welcome to the site. 30-45 grams per meal is what they will start you on when newly diagnosed. Exercise is very important also. You name implies that you can't do much walking with painful feet but that is the best exercise. There are many exercises that you can do sitting down though. For instance, very light weights for your arms, a small ball to pass back and forth with your arms over your head etc. Any exercise is better than none for Diabetes. Good luck to you and anything you need to know just ask us, someone will know.. :)

Miss JoAnna,

Welcome to our wonderful website!!! You can start a discussion on pretty much anything that strikes your fancy at that time…whether it be for discussing how your other health problems can either affect or be affected by diabetes or just asking general information…Please don't hesitate.

What meds are you on if any? Also just wanted to say that yeah my doctor put me on a 45-60 gram of carbs a meal diet as well…your just going to have to see which foods affect you differently. Myself I can eat all the regular spahgetti I want, but rice on the other hand skyrockets my BG (blood glucose)… all I can say is test, eat, and test again 2 hours after you eat to see what foods affect you how…test, test, and test again…thats what I had to do for the first few weeks…I have found some foods that should affect me don't and some foods that aren't considred "bad" affect me greatly.

Goooood Luck!!!!

Blessed Be

Hi! I use Actos 30mg for now. My doctor said I might have to start getting insulin. My poor younger sister became a diabetic at age six 1954. She had 3 to 4 insulin shots a day. She just passed away from brain leasions. I'm not wanting to start the insulin. I guess I will handle what ever comes.

Than You
