Well, found out today my scan shows I have gastroparesis. I am scared. I have pain. I am constipated but don't know what to take for that. The gi doc dismissed me saying I need to find an endocriniologist. Now I have an apt with my primary care tomorrow. He's fresh out of Med school and that scares me as well.
All I've eaten today is 1 ensure can. I have no appetite and have to watch out for nausea. I have no clue on how to handle insulin injections now. I'm tired, had anxiety attack and lost more weight. Which is great, but I'm losing it in an unhealthy way. I feel like the Tom Petty song "free falling" . Anyone been here? Anyone have gastroparesis? Thanks.

Red flower lady.. I took Reglan 4 times a day for years for my stomach and feeling very full and my food wouldn't process fast enough. Is that gastroparesis? No one has ever talked to me about that. However, i was getting weird feelings and things happening to me. Not sleeping, legs restless, depressed, head shakey, splured speech. No one knew what all this was from. Could it have been from taking the reglan? It worked wonders on my tummy, I ran out of it, moved and changed drs and didn't take it again. 90% of the feeling and smyptoms have subsided. Just maybe it was from the reglan. Again, thanks for the insight to lotsadogs, I think you may have helped me. Hugs CJ \U+127803\U+127803

I have this as well as GERD and have taken several meds for it that really doesn't work. Reglan was the strongest they had, but it has very nasy side effects, some non-reversable! I started to develope some and had to be taken off of it. We are working on other solutions right now. FYI, the liquid reglan worked better for me then the pills.

I have an Endo, but my Gastro dr does the tests and gives me the treatment plan, my other drs monitor it.

You have to eat smaller meals when hungry. I suffer from the loss of appetite and if hungry, full after a couple of bites. Drinking protein/meal replacement shakes works well for me or softer foods. I take my insulin the same way as when I didn't have this, I follow a sliding scale based on my bg reading and what I'm going to eat. I take something to clean out my system once a week, ask your dr what you should use.

If you don't like your drs or feel the dr is not experienced enough, then change them as you are paying for their services. It is important to have drs that you like in order to work as a team. Try to stop stressing as this will only make you feel worse. and write down questions for the dr so you'll walk out feeling better prepared to deal with this. Good luck:)

Omg. A fellow sufferer. Reading your post gave me hope.My gi doc basically said I'm very sick, chronic gastritis and pareses and told me to shut the door on the way out. Yes, I need a treatment team. I am trying, it's hard,my family doesn't understand. My hubby is disabled veteran and I usually take care of him mentally. He's trying though. I am so grateful to everyone here. Right now I'm in a lot of pain. I managed to keep 1 can of glucerna down today. 200 calories. Yesterday I had 250 calories. The weight loss in last 9 days is getting scary now. I have phenergan. The guy at my clinic wrote me Reglan today without even asking what medz I'm already on. I just moved here so it's all new doctors and I realize I chose wrong. I'm on psych medz that interact with reglan.I see the shrink on wed and will ask what he thinks. I miss my old doctor.
Stress is killing me. I have to fight anxiety attacks several times a day. Earlier the pain was so bad I curled up and wanted to cry but couldn't because of the pain. My husband's solution to everything is he wants to drive me to the er. I hate the er. I am staring at a can of glucerna.I need to drink it but pain is coming back. I am afraid of the nausea as well. Food as the enemy. What concept. I download feng shui music on my phone and trying to concentrate on that.
Thanks again, sorry about all this writing.

First, don't be sorry for asking for help here or just contributing. Second, since you take psyc meds, you may not want to take the reglan as it can cause anxiety attacks, sadness, depression, restlessness or confussion as well as make these worse if already suffer from them. It also said if you start thinking dark thoughts to stop taking it! I actually took that from a bottle of reglan pills I have, but nolonger use. The pills really did a job on me that the liquid didn't do, but I developed the twitching and had to stop using it. Oh, they were out of liquid and had to substitute pills and I only took them for three days, but wow, the restlessness and claustrophobia kicked in fast and I don't take psyc meds, so I can only imagine that it could be worse for anyone who needs to take them.

The GI dr did an endoscopy when diagnosing you right? I don't always have the nausea, just the loss of appetite and the very full upper stomach, etc. It is very important to not eat large meals when you feel like eating as you'll pay for it later. Liquids work better as it passes through the digestive tract faster instead of having to be completely broken down which is what our issue is, the nerves in the stomach don't signal to empty fast enough so what we eat is sitting there stacking up on top of each other. You will be able to eat again, it just takes working with it and the right treatment. You may want to take something to clean your system out until you get to the dr. Epsom salt mixed with water( the directions are on the bag) works, but taste REALLY bad so I add some lemon juice to it as it helps the taste some, but not much:) Oh, I drink it all at once with as few breaths as possible in between.

Hope you feel better:)

I am very sorry that you are going through all of this, how can they give you a diagnoses and not educate you as to how to care for yourself, what to expect etc? No, I do not have gastroparesis, so I will leave the advice to those wiser than myself in this matter. I just wanted you to know that we do care and feel free to vent whenever you need a shoulder to cry on.

Thank you. It means a lot that someone replied. I am scared…
Yesterday I took in 250 calories and this morning I am still dealing with the food not digesting. The gi doc was unfriendly and left me in a lurch. I see my pc today that did not refer e to an endo because they said they could handle it. Now I have the gp diagnosis, they have to refer me. In the meantime I have to figure out what to eat and how to inject insulin properly. I'm clue less.

You poor thing…hopefully you will be referred to someone who can really help you deal with all of this. I do know that you can not continue with only 250 calories…would juicing help? It seems to me that juicing healthy colorful veggies (green, orange and purple) with a few berries might be a good idea. It would give your digestive tract a rest, yet be chock full of healthy nutrients, especiially if organic. Since I do not use insulin, I am unable to help you there as well.
How are your numbers running? I am not very computer savvy , but I believe you can go to the home page and type in gastroparesis and it will direct you to other posts on this subject. Maybe you can find some useful info that way. Please keep me updated as to how you are doing…good luck!
