We dealt with this a little bit in the beginning. But we tried to patiently explain how the disease really works whenever we had the chance. It's not an issue now.

But I do remember in those early days it could be very frustrating.

I have experienced this once in a while, the other night I indulged in a small piece of apple pie,and the remarks were are you sure your safe to eat that, I was thankful for the concern, but I explained that I made the pie, ther was no sugar added, just apples cinnamon, ginger and cloveIt was delishous and my blood sugar after dinner [2 hrs] was 146

Boy isn't this the truth!!!!!

When I told my daughter I had to go on insulin, her first statement was "what about the ice cream you always eat?"

My retort - the once in a while treat is NOT what caused this!

When I was diagnozed, my father told my mom that if they had not allowed me to eat my Halloween candy I would probably be ok.

When I was young (46yrs ago) Everyone to my knowledge did think It was eating sugars. Even tho my parents had me under complete control, if my sugar was hi and I was admitted in the hospital people still told my mother she must be eating candy behind your bad…(LOL) My mother use to get so flustered with that comment all the time…Debe

"If you didn't eat so many sweets you wouldn't be diabetic." Hear it all the time. Thing is I'm not a big sugar eater., never have been.
