Thyroid imbalances are not uncommon in PWD. If your thyroid levels are off, that may also cause hair loss…something to be tested for at your next blood drawing.

You know, I thought I was going crazy! My hair kept coming out, I was seeing more scalp, and this was before I knew I had type 2 diabetes… but I see an improvement and hair is growing back, less is falling out. Yippeeeee!! I used to have sooooo much hair I had to get it thinned out. So yes, I believe it is the diabetes. Also, you can loose toenails too…this disease sucks. I have a friend that is taking this disease as a joke, doubles up on Metformin, and eats what he wants, and drinks alcohol. His big toenail fell off, and the other toenail is about to as well. Unfortunately, im afraid he may have a stroke one day.

Thanks femaletrucker. I also have psoriasis & it does get my scalp sometimes, thats why I was really wondering. Just seem to have a lot more hair in the shower drain than usual. Keeping a close eye on this, call me vain but I love my locs. :) Its sad about your friend not taking this disease seriously because you know its only hurting him. Hope he takes it more seriously before too much damage is done. Thanks for your reply.

Yes. It damages the follicles. Alpha lipoic acid with supplemental biotin is helpful in reducing the BGs and healing the follicles: ALA at 600 mg 2xday, plus biotin at 5,000mcg 1xday.
