I have been on thyroid meds since the mid-1980's. Last December, I was diagnosed with incredibly low B-12 levels which, I feel, were a major cause of a clinical depression diagnosis. That was the first time my B12 levels were checked. I am now taking a daily sub-lingual B12 supplement and receiving a monthly B12 shot. I no longer need to see a psychiatrist for my depression. I'm not sure about the thyroid/B12 connection but have discovered, that with diabetes (and aging) much of the body's natural balance is disrupted. 18 months ago, I was also diagnosed with a vitamin D3 deficiency. When was the last time bloodwork tested for these levels?

Yes you defintely can. Have you had any symtoms of low B12 such as numbness and tingling in your hands or feet, poor reflexes, tongue soreness, leg pain, or difficulty walking with balance. It will seem just like neuropathy so a lot of diabetics won't notice the symtoms. A normal B 12 count is between 200 to 900 picograms per milliliter, or pg/mL, according to the NIH. The real bad news is B12 is found in most foods that is very bad for diabetics, unless you are willing to go with Clams, Oysters, Octopus, and Mussels. The closest to normal foods are eggs. Did your doctor test your B12s?

I have had low vitamin D Levels for several years. Right now I am taking 50,000 u of D weekly for 10 weeks. You have to have a presc for that high of dose. I will be re-tested after the cycle is over. The normal OTC dosage is 2,000 u. My B 12is ok.
