jUST ANOTHER QUICK UPDATE TO ALL MY FRIENDS…Week 2 of Radiation treatments for my husband…and he's STILL smoking a pack a day!!! Decided that it isn't worth fighting over anymore…it is what it is. Anthony is hanging in strong through all this though so that's the one thing I hang onto!!! He had summer school which he wasn't too happy about but guess what??!! He finished ALL his work in the first week!! So he's all done already!! Still haven't had my surgery for the skin cancer yet. Not that I'm looking forward to it just wish it was over! My #'s are all over the place but considering that I have NO A/C in my car and it's been 100+ all week the hour ride up to the hosp. and an hour back is taking it's toll!! Can't take the heat anymore!!! Miss all of you and will try to get back on soon!! Yours, Ellen :)

Hi Ellen, I am so sorry that your trials seem endless, please know we are with you and lots of hugs going your way! Like others said do try to pack snacks and foods for the day. I drive all day in the heat for my job, so I invested in a good size lunch bag. This bag fits my water bottles, precut fruits, veggie bags, sandwich, etc, it also keeps my insulin away from the heat. This helps withs foods just a zip away. I also place my meter in this, so the heat won't make it go haywire! good luck my friend!

Hi Ellen, you just hang on, control what you can control and leave the rest up to the universe, or whatever you believe in. Stress does play a huge part in crazy BG numbers and heat does too. Just drink lots of water, take lots of deep breaths and just keep on keeping on. We all support you here. Just keep us posted and let us know what we can do to help.

Hi Sophie, thanks for all your good thoughts they are deeply appreciated! I know stress plays a big part here…but when I watch my husband go in for a treatment and come out having one heck of a coughing fit…spitting up all the mucus…taking a couple of puffs on his inhaler…and then lighting up a cigarette it just kills me!! But it is what it is. And I'm gonna do just that… keep on keeping on!! Luv to ya, Ellen :)

Happy to hear he is getting his treatment even though he causing other problems from smoking, but he has to want to stop. All will be well for the skin cancer so don't worry and with time moving along so fast, cool weather will be here before we know it. Let's talk about the blood glucose numbers, this IS under your control as you know what you are eating and how much of it. We can't blame bad numbers on how the medication is working, but on what we are doing about it, it takes making better choices and actions to get there. You can do it regardless of what is going on in your life as millions do it all the time.

I don't know if the treatments will help him or hurt him at this point. The Dr. says it won't help if he's still smoking but he wants to continue so it is what it is. As far as MY #'s I know it depends on me but am at a loss as to what to do about it! My eating habits are irregular to say the least and I know that's PART of it but it's frustrating cause the same thing doesn't work ALL THE TIME just sometimes, for example I can eat a tuna sandwich for lunch and my BS will be 145 and next week I can have the same tuna sandwich and my BS will be 379!!! I just don't get it!! And I'm angry that I even have to SAY those words because it makes me feel stupid and I am definitely NOT stupid!! Just frustrated!!

Hi, I'm so sorry your having such a tough time. Just take it one day at a time. As for the tuna sndwich, it depends on what your number was before eating it as well as what you ate and drank with it. I doubt the bg numbers where exactly the same each time you ate it. Don't feel stupid, just still trying/learning. I would suggest you eat smaller meals (6) through out the day, and use a cold/hot lunch bag/box and take meals with you when you know that you are going to be out and about all day. Not eating will shoot that number up just as it can drop it if you take meds and don't eat. It is a balancing act. I don't take pills, so don't know how to help you make adjustments, just know that insulin for me is based on bg numbers and what I'm going to eat. Also, stress makes bg go up and down.

You'll get it:)
