I was just prescribed glipizide. My new doctor is trying to help me minimize the side effects of metformin. Anyway I picked up my prescription for glipizide today and the pharmacist recommended 6 small "meals". I don't know about that with my work schedule. What would qualify as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon "meal". Do glucerna bars or shakes count? A handful of almonds? A protein drink? Some yogurt or dried fruit?

I've been diabetic for 10 years and never had it under control. It's easier just sailing down De-Nile.

Roselady, I started Glipizide as well last month because of side effects of Metformin, which I no longer take. That didn't seem to work too well for me so I am now on glyburide. With Metformin, my BG ran in the mid to upper 100's (fasting) and higher than that after meals. Since starting glyburide, within the last week my fasting BG levels have been in the 90's. Hope you have good luck with it. HUGS

Glad to see that things are working out for you with your diabetes now that you are taking Glipizide.
Which ones are you taking regular Glipizide (twice a day), or the extended release version (once a day)?

Good morning to ya! Welcome to the ups & downs of BS. When I want chocolate I eat chocolate then I run for 20 minutes on the tred mill and take cimmamin tablets. By the time I take my sugar again its 90 to 100.

1st day on glipizide and my numbers dropped from 238 this a.m. to 143 before lunch - and that was with a mid-morning snack. So far, I really like glipizide!

I don't know what your side effects are from the metformin. I was told to eat half
my meal and take the pill, and then finish the other half of my food. This pads the
pill and I so far have no stomach problems at all. I started out with glipizide and still
take. Good luck

Hi! Thanks for posting. I've tried for years to deal with metformin - no matter what I tried, my system has rebelled. My mom is also diabetic and has had so many problems with metformin, her doctor took her off it and put her on glipizide. Maybe side effects run in the family.
