I managed this condition with diet and exercise. I am grateful that I've had success doing this and made the changes that we all suggest to each other here. Maybe it's the summer heat, but I have no interest in eating breakfast. Some of you make protein shakes (or reduced protein shakes) as a meal replacement. Many of the products that I see at the store contain ingredients that I try to avoid. Maybe there's different things at a health food store. Any suggestions for meal replacement drinks? I don't want to skip breakfast but find myself doing that more recently. Any suggestions?

I like breakfast, but sometimes I am rushing so need to opt for a shake I like to place a strawberry Atkins shake in the freezer for awhile and then drink it with a straw. It gets a little icy which I like. I eat according to my meter, but always eat whether it's a boiled egg and a piece of apple I eat. Gotta get my metabolism going!

Sometimes I am not in the mood to eat breakfast either.
So what I do is not eat until a little bit later in the morning, when I'm at work, and the free coffee is waiting for me.
Oh btw, protein was mentioned below. I always eat yogurt (Light) for breakfast - my pre-lunch BS check is always perfect when I do.

If I want something quick for breakfast to go with my coffee it is going to be cream cheese and crackers. I don't do the shakes.

Ever since diagnosed I now eat breakfast everyday.. Never used to.. But do now.. Anyhow I am allergic to eggs.. So I got thinking, and started to eat what my Mom fed us when we were kids. I began eating hot oatmeal, and Red River.. In which both I will stir in a container of yogourt while cooking it, and a handful of blueberries.. Very very good..

I'm with James here. I check my morning number and eat according to that and what i have to do the next 4 hours. Most mornings i don't need a "meal" because I'm still good from my night snack. So if I don't do "meals", I don't do meal replacements. I tried the protein drinks for a while - too many calories (and I like real food better). Most mornings an apple and some almonds get me through to my mid-morning snack, which in turn gets me through to lunch.

Howdy Controlled. There is nothing written in stone that one has to eat what one would traditionally call "breakfast foods" for your first meal of the day.

One thing which puzzles me: Since protein is such an important part of managing Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Why would one want to use a "reduced protein" drink unless it was for something like kidney disease and one was doing it at the Dr's recommendation?

I was merely stating that SOME people used "reduced" protein drinks. I was alluding to the exact reason that you stated. I try to be careful. I have neuropathy and, unfortunately, neuropathy means kidneys.

I know that you don't have to eat "breakfast" food. What I'm saying is, regardless of what one eats in the morning, and regardless of what you call it, I don't want to eat food. At all. I know ultimately that's not a good practice.

I'm just getting tired of eating. I have my BG "controlled". I rarely have cravings and I think, perhaps, the weather is contributing to the fact that I just don't feel like eating…especially in the morning.

I understand the feeling one doesn't want to eat, especially in the hot weather. Sometimes I feel the same way too.

However I find that if I don't eat something solid my hunger goes crazy later on during the day. I usually opt for eggs. I can hard boil a dozen eggs and heat the kitchen only once every 5 days or so, (usually I eat 2 hard boiled eggs a breakfast) and then eat the eggs cold from the fridge and I don't get heated up myself.

What exactly is "Breakfast Food" anyway?
There was a time when people ate whatever it was that they had on hand!
