The best one I found is the freestyle line, it does not take very much blood at all, it's not large, it's a small tear drop size meter. I have had one for I don't know how long, love it and never will go to anything esle.

This depends on your own personal preference. I have alot of meters from very fancy to basic and I LOVE my Onetouch mini meter, can also hook it up to my computer if I want. Not all the Onetouch mini's do this though. I like that I can adjust the lancing device to how deep I want it to penitrate so not to have any pain:)

You can get meters free as they are covered by your insurance, but the strips will require the brand name co-pay usually, so you may want to find a meter with low out of pocket cost and ask your insurance which meters they cover and ask for the price of strips under your plan then decide.

What you might want to do is visit our product reviews. There members post what they use, why the like it, or why they don't like it. That will give you some good information too.

Before stating on my pump, I loved my AccuChek Compact meter that was loaded with a drum of 17 test strips. AccuChek was always very supportive and replaced my meters for free when they broke down (I test 7 times a day). Since going on a pump I use the One Touch Ultralink because it communicates with my pump. I also have a OneTouch slim as a back-up meter. OneTouch is also a very supportive company. Since the cost of the test strips can be the most expensive part of managing this disease, you may want to explore some of the lower cost alternatives at Walmart or Walgreen's.

I have used Ultra One Touch for years. I bought the newly designed slim one in different colors. I purchased 3 of them. They were 20.00 per kit. They are short and narrow. I really like them. I hope this helps you.

I use the Freestyle Lite and have since diagnosed a year ago. I really like it, but really don't have anything to compare it to since it is the only one I have used.
