Just curious if any of you have noticed a BG spike after eating Clam Chowder. For some reason the Clam Chowder at the Sizzlers and Coco's sends my BG high. I ate some last night at Coco's, and started feeling sort of "giddy". My BG is normally around 98 to 105. When I checked it at home it was 157. Granted I had nothing sweet with my meal. I also wanted to ask if a lack of sleep gives anyone the same feeling as high or low BG.
Thank you all! ☺

Cornstarch and the simmering of the potatoes in the chowder is probably the culprit. I can only have a half cup serving for this reason and no cheese topping either!

It is most likely because of the potatoes and possibly it is also thickened with flour or corn starch…these are both high in carbs, which will raise blood sugar.

I believe you're absolutely correct. It's funny, because I love Clam chowder. But it only seems that the Sizzler's clam chowder, and Coco's restaurant clam chowder are the ones that spiked my blood sugar. I will tell you this, my blood sugar was a roller coaster ride yesterday which was initiated by the clam chowder. It didn't seem like I could get it to the normal range for some time.
