Okay the neuropathy pain in my legs is unbearable. My body is hot but I'm cold. My numbers are ranging from 60-400 I'm drinking Emergen- C hoping its nothing too serious. To be honest I'm scared that something is seriously wrong with me that the doctors haven't found yet. I just want to cry!!!

Hi, riquelskyy,
Haven't seen you respond to any of these observations since you posted. Hope you are beginning to feel better. Please let us know how you are doing now?

I've often heard doctors say that when people are depressed, they are more sensitive to pain. I've noticed that with my husband and, as I've treated his depression, his use of pain medications has also decreased.

This morning, as I was reading online on one of the Care sites, I encountered an article that said that using antidepressants also reduces pain. It may be an off-label use, but it apparently is a recognized one.

I use alpha lipoic acid to counter any beginning neuropathy. So far have avoided any symptoms, though that doesn't necessarily mean I've avoided nerve damage. It is sometimes symptom free; whatever, I'll take it :)

When I complained to my doctor about my calves being cold and the rest of my body was warm he checked the circulation in my legs. I ended up with T.E. D.'s socks. Now I don't have the problem. Once I got my blood sugar under control the neuropathy cleared up. To ease the pain during the day, I wore a good pair of tennis shoes to cushion my feet. Now I only have pain if my blood sugars are off and that rarely happens or if I am on my feet most of the day.

I'm so sorry for your pain, I have it as well. It is really important to keep the bg in range to help the pain, also, has your dr put you on any meds for it? They usually start you out on lower doses and then increase as needed.

My calves are cold and my body is hot
My legs hurt
I lay my legs on a heating pad that has a shut off timer to go to sleep
I use it on a low setting and cover it with an extra towel
I have wakened at night to turn it back on
The heating pad pain relief really helps
Get your sugar under control, the best you can.
Gabapenten for neuropathy taken at night also helps
Look for the sugar in what you are drinking, 400 is way to high
Vitamin C is good to take daily but not the answer to your pain
I hope you are not drinking juice as well
Remember you must have protein every time you eat a carb
Make sure you know how to count your carbs properly
and are testing 2 hours after you eat a main meal
Let me know if this is helpful and what you are trying!
Very sorry for your pain! You have our empathy and understanding!

Pixie ask your doctor to check the circulation in your legs. I got so tired of my calves being cold and my feet being painful. Once he found out my circulation wasn't as good as it should be and put me in T.E.D. socks to wear all day, swelling went away as did the coldness in my calves. My foot pain cleared up once I got my blood sugar under control and now I don't have it as often as I did before.

I am so sorry you are going through that Riquel!

I have similar conflicting sensations, My legs feel like they're burning yet my feet are often like ice.

That is some wild Blood Glucose roller coaster you are on. How long does it take for you to go up and down like that?

One thing I have been told is that my cold feet & hands may be from low thyroid. I must get that checked out.

If it makes you feel better, just go ahead and cry. You will release some of the stress you may be feeling.

I pray that whatever it is it will be something which, when found, is easily treated.

James my fingers would turn blue in the winter as did my toenails. My feet and hands freeze in the winter months. I forgot what it is called but I end up wearing insulated gloves and thicker socks in the winter and I buy hand warmers and put them in my pocket. keeps my hands from freezing.

It might be raynaud's disease. The Cake Lady has problems with her fingers turning blue in cool weather. I will ask her what med the Dr finally prescribed for her a few months ago It seems to be helping her. She also has a thyroid problem. For a long time her Dr thought that was causing her finger problems.

oh my! My g/f suzie wants me to say with her in Milwaukee WI (instead of LV NV) until Nov when her lease is up on her apt there, and then we move to LV together. With the way my body temp regulation goes I am hesitant to do that since I may join you in those symptoms. (amazing what love will move one to consider doing)

jayabee52 2012-06-09 17:20:58 -0500 Report

I am hoping she can be here long before Nov. But I am gonna have to go there for a while in the meantime. Look at it from Suzie's perspective. She loves me and I say I love her, and then I stay away???? That is not gonna fly at all with her, especialli if I don't have a extremely good reason to stay here. I might have one if I slip into needing dialysis, but she'll say they have dialysis in Brewtown also (in fact she has already said it). Life is interesting at times!

The Cake Lady swears by her silk jammies. Never made me feel warm when she would con me into trying some on a cold winter night. Just made me shiver and shake. And that was in my high school days.
Flannle and polar fleece never faied me, even in the semi during a Wyoming or Up State NY Blizzard. Plus Hubby generates heat like furnace. Maybe SQ will do the same for you.

You know that if you fined somone els to rent the place she can move then ???????
Or you can ask the landlord if they will let her out of it some times they can be nice over it if you ask ???
I wish you the best my drend

jayabee52 2012-06-07 18:59:01 -0500 Report

they said they'd let her out of her lease early if she gave 2 mos notice and IF they could find someone else to lease the apt. But if she leaves early and they don't find someone else to lease it she'd still be on the hook for $1100/ mo. We're still talking about it. The other consideration is the weather. The weather can be pretty rough between Brew town and Sin city in Nov (especially in the Rockies) so IMO Nov may be exactly the wrong time to move her belongings to LV. It is quite an interesting conundrum.
