Are these three things related?
Some studies have been pointing to the possibility that they are connected. However they don't know which is the cart and which are the horses. It does seem we might be the cargo in the cart though.
Links to three articles are

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17575085
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3893447

Since they are medical studies I must include a multiple syllable word warning here.

The first link is a PDF of the full report from a study that seems to show according to the researchers
"Insulin resistance is associated with increased cholesterol
synthesis and decreased cholesterol absorption in
normoglycemic men."
The 2nd and 3rd are just synopsis' of the reports of two other researches.
Direct effect of cholesterol on insulin secretion: a novel mechanism for pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction.
Evidence for an independent relationship between plasma insulin and concentration of high density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride.

Anybody want to share their conclussions about the studies?
