National Donut Day
First thing I heard on the radio when I woke up was it's National Donut Day. Of course the power of suggestion was too much for my sleep fogged mind. Husband obeidiently went out and fetched me a donut from the nearby Donut Shoppe.
1 1/2 hours later BG is 132. 2 hrs 148. 2 1/2 hrs 147 3 hrs 148
Maybe resistence would not have been futile if I had made Almond Flour Waffles 2 days ago. But I was just too lazy to make them then.
Now if only husband would have been as lazy as me today. He never would have gone to the Donut Shoppe before rushing off to work. And I am too lazy to walk down the street 2/10ths of a mile to the donuts. I'm too busy storing up my energy to walk 2/10ths of a mile to work. tonight. At least the miles of walking I do at work will burn off a few of the calories from the Donut Day indulgence.

Almond flour lets you make many things.
I love the no bake aspect!

Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter
3 tablespoons heavy cream
2 teaspoons cocoa
Liquid Splenda equal to 2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons oats
1/4 cup unsweetened coconut *
1/4 cup almond flour, 1 ounce
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Bring the butter, Splenda, cream and cocoa to a boil in a very small pot; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in the peanut butter until well blended, then stir in the remaining ingredients. Drop onto wax paper (mixture will be crumbly so you may need to shape them with your fingers); chill or freeze until firm.
hey there well that's nice of you.
i'm taking good care of myself now.
i will miss eating donuts but that's life are bagels good to eat when you're a diabetic?

Howdy troublemaker, Actually the carb count for a large bagel is MORE than that of a donut. For verification see here ~ http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrit...
These sound good, Pixsi. I think I'll try it. To hot now to bake much.
Throw in the elimination of a hot fudge sunday with moocho whip cream, and ya might as well commit suicide!
I can't remember the last time I ate a donut but, man oh man, did I love them…especially the chocolate covered raised ones. YUMMM! My ex-husband and I (before I was diagnosed with diabetes) would buy a dozen donuts on Sunday morning and that would be our breakfast. He passed away last year…don't know if he'd changed his eating habits in the intervening 30+ years…the marketing and ad people will promote anything!
Gotta love marketing. In college I placed 3rd in Western Regional Ad Design. Wonderful ad. Unfortunately it was for a place that went out of business before the ink was barely dry on the newspaper. They had a little problem with food poisoning.
I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, but…
Have you tried baking with almond flour or almond meal. I am working on some recipes when time and energy anad motivation converge. Made a Brownie during Christmas baking freenzy that was almost right on. Just needed a bit of a chocolate boost. They tasted so good I could not believe they were not bad for me. Just lacked a little more WOW factor.
The Shortbread was good, just very crumbly. A chocolate Drop cookie was so-so. Lemon Snow Bars were a horrible disaster and 2 other experiments were even worse. All in all it was a fun playing in the kitchen day.
I haven't given almond flour a try but it makes sense that it would reduce the carb content of baked goods. I find it easier not to bake anymore, that way, I'm not tempted to eat baked goods.
Sounds good, but can't take a chance. Sugar's all ready up. Even though they have plain, which I cannot stand! Lol! Love the long johns, all creamy and chocalate!
Maybe you should try making an almond flour version. Inpired by old biker's chocolate cookie confession, my experiment yesterday was chocolate almond flour waffles. Recipe still needs some tweeking. But it tasted as good as a box mix cakish waffle. Needed a touch more flavor, I forgot to add the vanilla. Used unsweetened applesauce for the sweet part. Didn't calculate the carb/protein/fat etc yet.
Had a couple for lunch. Then took two to work for my 2:30 AM supper break.
Maybe you should have walked together to get it, eat it there and enjoy the walk back, good for both of you:) I'm thinking he must have wanted a donut to justify getting you one, haha
Finallly asked him yesterday what one he had. "None". However he did buy a couple of their pigs in blankets.
Knew he wanted something, haha. He should have just eaten the donut and not the pigs in a blanket. Isn't it funny how guys think, gotta love them:)
I think it was more like a crime of opportunity. He saw, he ate.
Too funny:D
Time was short, he had a bunch of things to do before work. But I was mainly being very, very lazy.
I haven't asked what one he took to work. Most likely it was huge and jelly filled.
What!!!! I missed National Donut Day??? I could have had a 7-11 cake donut with my coffee this morning. I find they don't mess with my blood sugar as long as I move around before lunch.
There was a survey as to the most liked donut on the internet, glazed won!
Long Johns here ;)
Yum. Filled, of course.
I was so jealouse of one of my sisters. When she got married their first home was 6 houses away from a Winchell's. Her husband still loves the white iced chocolate sprinkled cake donut.
I use to enjoy a warm fresh Krispy Kreme Glazed donut.
We used to live about 5 min from a Krispy Kreme for about 10 yrs and never went there? I did eat a glazed that a co-worker brought in though. Don't like store bought krispy krems, yuk!!
There used to be a local place in Denver called The Dutch Boy. They knew how to make a Glazed Donut. The Cake Lady would take us on the trek across the metro area every so often when she got the craving.
Graylin now I want a donut, a buffalo burger with a fired pickle. Gonna have to get the whip out and beat down the cravings :>)
Me too, I have a couple of eggs sitting on the counter. Almond flour near by and just need to get off of DC and make a batch of something healthy and very tasty.
That's all that will keep me from making a detour on the way home from work in the morning. I would just need to turn to the left instead of the right after I cross the street to get home.
Maybe I need a carb avoidance guide/herding dog.
Ok time to stop this…now I want a donut. A nice warm glazed one with a glass of ice cold chocolate milk…Yummmmm
Oh, you really want to be bad:D
Just put down the donut and step away from the chocolate milk. And no one will get hurt.
lol
You ladies are killing me.I am half out the door headed to dunk n donuts now LOL
I love dunk n donuts, but haven't been to one in years.
well redflower, you missed the day! Now you're gonna have to wait another year till it rolls around again LoL!
Oh, I didn't miss it, just chose to spend it in another way:)
Good for you!
I would love to have the option of being in a donut coma, but not a reality for me.
Misery loves company. But I hope your will power is stronger than mine was, I'd feel bad if I was responsible for leading you to a live of bad eating.
Just between you and me. I cheated last night with 2 small choclate filled cookies..It was the first time in months and they tasted sooo good
Did you dunk them in anything or just eat them as is?
I wanted to dunk them bad in a glass of milk..But didn't that would have been to much guilt..LOL
Tripple chocolate, chocolate donut-chocolate filled cream and chocolate icing. Can not resist them and I do dip them in milk Mmmmmmmmmm
Would have been better than in Kool-Aid. My style way back in VBS (Vacation Bible School).
Good for you:) You are allowed to have them, just not often and in moderation, which of course you did!!
Since so many holidays have been moved to Monday you should still be able to celebrate.
LOL great idea
That's a good one! Triple word score.
I can understand your position. Donuts were all over my office this morning! I didn't have one as I had something else to fend off the craving. I think if you only had 1 and it's not an all the the thing it's okay.
You deserve to indulge once in a while.
What flavor donut did you get, do you have a specific favorite ?
Best,
Techguy87114
I was so good the day before when facing the monthly staff meeting birthday cake. Saved my piece to reward hubby for dealing with the laundromat while I was enduring the staff meeting. Giving up that piece of grocery store bakery cake wasn't really a sacrifice though.
I wanted an old fashioned plain donut. Those were sold out. Hubby bought a plain cake donut as its substitute. Pretty good, but not as good. The old fashioned donut must have a slightly different dough, I get a lower shorter spike, the 3 times I have indulged in the last year. I wish I had paid closer attention to what the different batters and doughs were years and years ago when I worked at a bakery at the sales counter.
You don't have enough problems with the "cake lady" that you have to have hubby get a donut for you?
Well I hope you enjoyed it! LoL!
As to The Cake Lady issues… She is the one who hooked me onto glazed donuts. Pre D I did nationwide searches for the best one. None could even touch her favorite place's version. If they were still open she would be tempting me with them along with her cakes. Tha woman has never met a carb she didn't like. Unless it was combined with Blue Cheese.
Unfortunately I did enjoy the whole thing. Otherwise only 1 bite for me and hubby woud have eaten the remains and no hours long spike.
Darn, I haven't had a donut in twenty years! I know, I know, sounds like I'm bragging, but believe me i have slipped a few other things down the hatch. I just close my eyes and scoff it up before I have time to asses the situation!!! Very, very rarely do I do such terrible things however, the big D reminds me of my no, nos!
In my brain fog I rationalized it is a doNUT, there should be some good in it.
I think if you eat the exact center of a donut, your bg will remain normal. Unfortunately, it tastes like air, but you will eliminate the brain fog!!!
I have bad aim whenever I try that some of the non center gets eaten.
I have terrible aim also! I usually miss the entire center, and eat the surrounding contents ! Then I'm left holding the air !!!
It's the extra "p" and "e" in the word shoppe that did it. Everyone knows there's more carbs and sugar in a "shoppe" than just a plain "shop".
Too funny. I thought if you broke it into small pieces it would get rid of the carbs. Sort of like chocolate, freeze it and it kills the calories and the sugar.
Yes definately! The broken cookie theory! Once broken, the carbs all leak out!
You guys are so helpful. Tonight at work I will not ignore the plate of cookies on the counter right next to the freezer full of ice cream.
I will crumble up all the cookies, smush them into the ice cream. then at break time I will enjoy a very low carb feast. I am so looking forwrd to work tonight.
Heck I may have to check out the other three ice cream freezers and cookie laden counters throughout the building.
Just one question if I inhale while crumbling cookies does it matter?
Best wear a mask and gloves to be safe.
Have the gloves. But does the mask need to be a gasmask, or will just the standard issue mask we have at work for flu and cold season be up to the job?
Is the carb value multiplier based on Scrabble letter values?
I think so! Amazing how that works huh? i think thats how they determined what numbers to put on the tiles.
Another valid reason to avoid sguid.
Damn you are sharp! Never thought of that.
A sub from Quizno's is definately out too then.
Jimmy John's would be way off the charts.
ROTFLHO!
