My husband was on them after he had a bout with an infection. He was on strong IV antibiotics for a week. So we used Culturel on recommendation from the pharmacist and that is what prompted my search for LIVE and ACTIVE cultures in yogurt. Most don't have that, it was hard to find.

Now he had already lost weight in the hospital, so I did not notice if that continued. He no longer takes it, and has put on weight, but he's not overweight.

It is an interesting article and will be good to see how that research ends up. It kind of makes sense, as our bodies are working properly when those little buggers and in our gut, and we don't work so well when they are not.

I had been on antibiotics in the hospital also, and developed a case of Clostridium Difficile ("c diff") as my wife Jem had earlier. She like to drink acidophilus milk to combat that, I just took probiotic pills to fight it off. I used Lactobacillus acidophilus, which took care of that c diff within 2 or 3 days.

I havent taken the Lactobacillus acidophilus pills for quite some time as I understand that if one is constantly taking them the effect is not as good as if one takes them only when they are needed.

Yes we are certainly complex organisms who need a lot of internal "bugs" to work correctly
