Hello everybody, my name is Terina, I've been a type2 diabetic for 20 years. After a couple of high A1Cs and further testing, my GP referred me to an endocrinologist who has started me on insulin therapy. I didn't know how bad I was feeling until I started feeling better. I hope to learn from others on insulin therapy and to find support for the day to day struggles of a chronic disease.

Hi Terina I too after 10 years on oral meds have started insulin therapy. That was 2 1/2 months ago..It has been working great for me..I feel so much better and it has done wonders for my energy level..It wasn't an overnite fix, I take one shot of lantus daily and metformin. It took a good 6 weeks of slowly increasing my dosage and change of diet before I hit the winning combination..Good luck in your journey of life and welcome to DC

Welcome to DC, Terina. You couldn't have picked a better place to learn about all things D and more.

I'm Type II and on 20 units a day of Lantus insulin. I'm almost 3 months away from my first full year of being diagnosed. So I don't have long term experience with insulin, but will help in any way I can. And seeing that you've been in this fight for 20 years now, I'm also looking forward to learning what I can from you as well.

Welcome to DC!!
I am a type 2 on Metformin, so the only experience I have with insulin is when my Dad was using it, but that was many years ago.

Howdy Terina! WELCOME to DiabeticConnect!

Sorry you qualify for inclusion in this little family, but since you do I am glad you are here! IMHO this is the best place to find that for which you say you are looking.

I have been on oral meds (mostly Metformin) as well as insulin (NPH). I now manage my Diabetes Mellitus (DM) by extremely selective eating, keeping the carbs low and the protein high.

Blessings and good health to you and yours

Welcome to the site, so happy to have you here:) I'm not a type 2, but type 1 so I have always done insulin. Yes, you can feel good as long as you do the bg checks, eat right and get the exercise in, all of which will help control the amount of insulin you need. Get the glucose tablets to have on hand in case you go too low, they work fast.

Good luck
