This comes from another discussion in progress. How Many Type II diabetics on here consider themselves to be at least 20 pounds overweight?
Next question. How many diabetics on here consider themselves to be 20 pounds or less overweight, just right, or underweight?

Since this is my discussion, I get to go first! I am 65 pounds overweight.

I am overweight, my doctor says he would like me to get under 200.
My best weight was 135 so I have about 95 to lose. I have a recumbent
bike and an ab-doer but I won't use them unless I'm home by myself.
I"m very embarrassed to exercise in front of anyone. I had a fractured
foot last year and had physical therapy 3 times a week all last summer I
managed to lose 20 lbs. I have a lot of work to do.

that used to be me before age 40. I weighed 130 the day before I delivered a 7.5 pound kid. I wore a size 4 maternity pants and a size 12 top for a maternity top. Now I need to lose 80 pounds

Oh, I have my moments of weakness as well, just try to take it day by day. Also, have a husband who is a chef and is very active in my health care. If I was doing the cooking the situation would be different. Just aim for small changes each day and before you know it they will all add up, you'll be following a healthier routine and be able to see the weight drop. It takes time, remember the weight didn't happen overnight, so it won't go overnight:)

Pixi, I lost the weight kinda by accident.

I set out to control my Blood Glucose (BG) levels without the use of meds and really didn't think about weight loss until my pants started fitting looser. It was a great side benefit of my eating plan.

I also did not think of it as a diet but I told myself that this was an experement, so that if the experement failed, I wouldn't be a failure. Sometimes how one frames the issue in their mind, makes a lot of difference with the outcome.

I decided to concentrate on controlling my blood sugar and not stress about my weight so much.
Since I started taking a Zumba class twice a week I have lost 2.5 pounds, maybe I should start doing the Zumba 3 times a week. ;-)

It's really interesting…with the exception of one or two responses, most who replied (as well as most on this site) are (dare we admit it) "overweight." We're also diagnosed with this condition. I'm afraid there's just no escaping the preponderance of the evidence.

The good news is that many who responded have lost, are losing and continue to lose more weight. I hope everyone reaches their goals. It will be interesting reading what our posts will be when we're all where we really should be.

I am 20 pounds overweight. I've lost 60 since being diagnosed and am just continuing to lose slowly. I plateau for a while, then drop a few more. It's no longer my major focus, but it is still an issue in my life. My major focus is on being healthy in all its ramifications: food choices, appropriate exercise, reduced stress, and normal weight. When I finish this 20, I'll reevaluate the elasticity of my skin and decide whether or not I want to go any lower.

Well, since I have managed to shrink 2 inches in height in the past year or so, I am now more overweight than before! Lucky me!! :)

I am at least 75 pounds overweight. My numbers are good but my physical movement is very limited by the weight.

According to the charts I am 37 lbs overweight.
I have lost 22 lbs since I was diagnosed last July.
I guess I can do another 37 lbs. ;-)

According to the BMI I should be no more than 188. When Dx'ed I was 257 and now I am at 204! I still want to drop another 10-15 lbs. My BS numbers have dropped with my weight. The Dr says if I continue I will be stoping the Metformin and control by diet and exercise alone. Here is hoping.

BMI is only a moderately good indicator. I read some time ago that according to his BMI, Shaq was in the "morbidly obese" category at the height of his playing days. While he may have been overweight, I doubt he was that out of shape. BMI does not take into account the body type/frame of the individual.

I really don't know Jim, I weigh in at about 150 lbs (give or take a few) The govt weight charts say I should be at about 135 to 140. I have done my BMI and the proportion of weight to height averages to a BMI of 25, which is according to the chart is right on the lower edge of "overweight".

However my sense is that I really don't want to lose much weight as I feel I need a cushion of weight so that if I get seriously sick (like happened to me when I needed dialysis) I will have that cushion on which to fall back!
