We had a guest-post today over at DiabetesMine that focuses on a program known as Diabetes Sisters, which is women-focused and does a great job at bringing women with diabetes together. The post is here: http://www.diabetesmine.com/2012/05/diabetes-....

That post made me start thinking about the larger topic of D-Meetups, and how people have those and what you find the most beneficial - just the interaction with people like you, specific programming or information, or something else? Do you find these D-Meetups as beneficial/more beneficial than visits with doctors, other healthcare professionals, or organizations like the ADA or JDRF?

Howdy MH. As with any grouping of homo sapiens for any reason, it depends on the individuals involved in the group and also those who are in leadership positions within the group.

The monthly support group which I attend here in Las Vegas, from time to time, has strong leaders and they are quite giving and knowledgable.

I have also been a member in other online diabetes support groups and IMHO this is BY FAR the best!

I have learned more about Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in the past 3 + yrs I have been here on DC than in the many years wandering about the diabetes wilderness listening to Drs and others who may have some book learning about diabetes, but have never experienced it. I have learned enough here to be able to manage my DM without the use of DM medications. I doubt that I could not have done it without being on DC and I'd probably still be stabbing my tummy with an insulin syringe.

This website sometimes seems on the verge of blowing apart due to the strong personalities here, but the administrative leadership manages to get us put back together and get us pulling together (for the most part).
