I just got back from my Doctor's appointment today. After I had told my Dr. what I had done to bring my B/G down from 187 to 106 and have lost eight pounds. She (Dr) told me that I should write a book for her to show what can be done if one tries to help his/her health. She also said that this is what makes her feel good about being a doctor when she sees someone is doing something to help himself.

I explained to her that I have learned what foods cause my blood sugar level to increase by eating different foods and testing my sugar level and seeing either a moderate increase or drastic increase in my sugar readings. For example I ate crab meat, crackers, and cantalope. Following this meal my blood sugar was really elevated. The next day I ate cantalope and tested my blood sugar and learned that cantalope is full of sugar. Now tht I know what foood are not good for me it is easier to make good decisions regarding my health.

Going on insluin was never discussed. Her last statement was just keep doing what you are doing. This is GREAT News.

Do you take medications? I think your doctor is the bomb. Wish they would all be that encouraging.

Jay It Bluegill88 again. Now that I am over the humb, what are some thing I must be aware of. It seem that something is missing now that I am able to identify what foods I should eat, and what foods I should stay away from.
I guess it me, but there seem to be an empty void out there that I am not sure what it is. I would like to hear what your thinking on this subject.

All I can surmise is that you are missing some of your go to comfort foods.

And I would not deprive myself of a measured serving of a comfort food you miss OCCASIONALLY. For instance, I miss ice cream and I allow ONE drumstick type ice cream cone once every week. That way I don't feel totally deprived. I used to eat a whole half gallon of ice cream in a night, but now I allow myself 1 small cone per week. I have to walk to the store to get it, and the store I purchase it at the ice cream is expensive so I am not tempted to buy more than one. That is how I deal with that craving for ice cream.

But that is only a guess on my part. If I miss my guess on this please try to describe your feeling of void in more detail if you can.

Great job!!!
Way to go!!!
I think Drs should advise all their patients to visit DC. There is so much to information from real people on what helps them and so much support.
It is a great site to help sift thru all that is involved with diabetes. ;-)
Keep up the fight!!

I think that's a great idea Dean,We all need to let our doctors know we're here too,so others and be told where they can get extra support!

Thanks for your support. My Doctor never said for me to do anything, she just told me that she sending me several boxes of strips, tabs, and insulin, and for me to do some testing. If it was not for D/C I don't know what I would have done. I really appreciate all the help from everyone from D/C for giving me some tips on what I should do.
I have just started and I will continue to ask questions when I come across something I don't understand.
For the pass few weeks I have read everything that all have given me to read.

Great job. Keep it up. Went to my Dr today with similar results. He asked me what it was that made me change things for the better. Imagine- the Dr asking the patient how to do it!

You are so right. She wanted to know some of the thing I had, and I told her about the DC program. She stated that she get tips from her patients to tell others what will work for them.

Good Job! And yes, most fruits are high in natural sugar and will elevate your sugars a lot! Veggies are good tho. So are meats, as they are proteins and they dont raise your sugar. And of course, carbs, like pasta, cerial, breads, etc also have a big effect on your blood sugars ;)
