And I now have another reason to be excited. I'm back on the baseball field coaching with our town's 8yr old Tournament team. We had our first tourney this weekend. We won the 1st 2 games & lost our 3rd. There were 3 teams in our division. One team lost all their games & the rest of us were all tied for 1st at 2 & 1.
There was a tie breaker to determined the top 2 teams to go into the championship game. I think it was either # of runs allowed or number of runs scored. We lost the tie breaker so we didn't get to play for the championship.

Our town had a really good showing at the tourney. I go & watch the other teams my town has in the different age groups. The age groups run from 8yr olds to 14 yr olds. I know we had at least 4 teams in their champ game. After being on the DL for 4 seasons it was heaven to be able to step back out on the ball field.

Thanks. And another reason to be excited is that I'm going to see my grandnephew play baseball on 6/1. Due to the medical issues I haven't been able to get out there to see him since he started playing ball. He lives 2hrs away. A friend is going with me just in case. I haven't taken that drive in 3 1/2 yrs.

I'm so psyched! I've been waiting for this day since…well, since he was born!
Happy, happy! Joy, joy! LOL :D

Gabby I'm ecstatic!
Here's a synopsis of the passed almost 3 yrs.

After a NDE with a belly full of excrutiating pain I called 911 & got myself to the hosp.

I had emergency hernia surgery during which the surgeon also found 2 ulcers the size of a fifty cents piece.
He fixed everything then closed me up. I was in the CCU for a week. Went home after another week.

Because of my girth at the time & the fact he closed me with staples not stiches, the incision spread open & got infected.
I went back into the hosp where the surgeon cleaned up the infection but had to put me on a wound vacuum as the wound was now about a foot long & 6" wide.

Since I couldn't have the wound vac taken care of at home (insurance reasons) I was in a rehab center until I could get off the wound vac. It had to be changed every other day. Being on prednisone for RA slowed down my healing process considerably. I was in the rehab center for 8 months. From 9/12/09-3/31/10.

The wound was still slow to heal and still hadn't closed as of 2/6/12 when I went back into the hosp for more surgery. I had another hernia & the wound vac left air pockets that would abcess & brake open and they needed to be closed up.

I was in the hosp for 2 weeks due to a GI infection. But this time he close the incision with a combo of staples & stitches. The incision was all the way from my left side to my right side across my lower belly like where your seatbelt goes across you & a section also extented from above my right thigh up to my belly button which was the open part of the 1st wound. He closed that open wound so I have no BB.

I went home & 2 weeks later I was back in the hosp cause the incision started to open in the part near my right thigh. Plus the whole incision was red and inflamed. A sure sign of infection.

I went back into the OR & the surgeon cleaned up the infected area that was opening and reclosed it. I was put on IV antibiotics. I was in the hosp for 24 days that time & had 2 rounds of IV anti bs. I'm still on an oral anti b. But I was put on those by the infecious disease doc. I have 1 more month to be on those.

During the 24 days in the hosp the surgeon started to take out the staples & stitches on the leftside & up to the bb. but he was cautious & started by taking out every other one. By the time I went home the area above my right thigh was the only area I had left to have the stitches removed.

Finally on 4/5/12 the last of the stitches came out. This time no area reopened.
He finally released me from his care on 5/17.

Whoooooooooo Hooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

OMG...that is incredible. What a pain, and I do mean pain. No wonder you are doing the happy dance.

Gabby,
I've had a lot of pain in my life. But nothing & I mean NOTHING compared to the pain I endured when the wound vac had to be changed. I've had numerous surgeries, broken bones, had my right knee replaced(I actually stayed awake for that),& had numerous cortizone shots, & my knees drained numerous times. But when they had to change the wound vac was the worst. They would have to give me my pain medicine & then an hr before changing it they would give me a dose of pain med for breakout pain. I can't begin to imagine what the pain would have been like w/o the pain meds 1st.

DOING THE "HAPPY DANCE" FOR YOU !

Thanks James! I've been doing the happy dance for 5 days now! And now that it's over the 1st thing I did was start to ease back into coaching baseball. Our town's 8yr old Tournament team needed some help so I stepped up. I'm official scorekeeper for the team, that puts me on the bench w/the team during games. And with this commitment I feel I should attend practices as I have w/other tourney teams I've helped with. I can't do any physical practicing due to the RA & Osteoporosis & the fracture hasn't fully mended yet, but I can do the mental practicing w/the boys.

The next thing I'm doing is taking a 2 hr drive to central PA to watch my Grandnephew play baseball. He's 9 yrs old now but since he started playing I haven't been able to make it out there due to the med issues. I have been waiting for this day since, well…since the day he was born.

I missed his 1st Communion last year cause that is when the fracture happened & I missed his younger sister's 1st Communion earlier this month cause I just wasn't quite comfortable enough to take that drive yet. But I am now!

I can't wait til June 1st. That's the day I'm going to his game. I may even make it back out there for his sisters's dance recital. The whole dance school does 1 big recital including the teachers & the money they make from the tickets goes to a different charity every year. Making that will depend on if I have a tournament game that day. I don't have the date for the recital yet. If I remember correctly from my oldest Grandniece's 1st recital when she was 5, it usually falls on the same weekend as my own town's annual Baseball Tournament.
