It can be anyone you’d like to recognize or admire, someone you know personally or not, someone with diabetes or maybe a Type 3. It might be a fabulous endo or CDE. It could be a d-celebrity or role-model. It could be another DOC member. It’s up to you – who is your Diabetes Hero??"

My Grandpa is my hero.
He was diagnosed about the same age as myself
He lost over 100 pounds in 6 months eating healthy.
He had type II. No matter how he felt, leg ulcers and all
He never stopped working to support us, never stopped trying
He always loved us and always put us first.
He tried his very best and now I know personally how high a hill
he climbed, all for Love

Thank you for sharing your hero, I agree you can be happy. It's not a death sentence, it's just a life changing experience.

My hero is Tacoma. He is not here anymore, but you can look up his discussions and you will be amazed! He taught me so much of my foundation in learning how to deal with my diabetes more naturally. He really got me going down the road that I now share with so many of you of whole foods, ratios and so on.

And as Dietcherry said, Richard gives me great inspiration. That man has been through it longer than I have been alive. And I am no spring chicken!

There is also John Crowley, whom without his vision, we would not be here. I know there are other sites that deal with diabetes, but this one is the best. He helps make it that way and I am so grateful for that.

Then last, but not least by any means are so many of you guys. You give me hope every day. I know I will see light, laughter, heart and soul in what you share. I need you guys and would be lost without you.

Wow great idea Grumpy!! Mine would be Richard157, a long-time T1 and member of DC — extremely inspiring man !!! In fact, all my D friends here who are surviving and thriving and kicking Ds butt have my utmost respect :)

Today's post is about our diabetic hero. I didn't have to think long about mine. My hero has never been in the news, or made a million dollars. She has never saved a bus full of orphans from falling off a cliff. She is my hero because she changed how I thought about diabetes. She stands 4 feet tall and is the bravest girl I know. My 7 year old Jasmine. She has had thousands of shots, numerous hi's and lows, and some rough experiences. She rarely complains. She loves with his entire heart. She has gotten used to the multiple devices she has to wear on a daily basis. She knows that she is different. She knows that food is not just food for her. She knows the difference between "Jasmine I need you to eat this" and "Jasmine, I NEED you to eat this". She knows when she is low and usually says "I want to eat"! She can eat a banana in her sleep. She is a rockstar and so well behaved. She is an inspiration and is the reason I will be at every JDRF event that I can be. They have to find a cure for the both of us. She is amazing, and is my little pumpkin.

I love the children! They put us to shame so often with their willingness to just do what they need to do. She sounds wonderful!

That she is Dietcherry, she loves to make fun of because I choose to do my insulin through a needle. I know now how my parents felt when I was diagnosed. Worrying if I was eating, checking my blood, giving myself insulin. Thank god for the pump, does everything for you.
