I count carbs and do not go over 60 grams a day. Do not eat any pasta, white bread, white rice you can find subistutes. Read the lables and serving sizes and you should be ok.
here's what worked for me & I lost 40 pounds.
there is 3500 calories in a pound. so that is what you need to cut in a combination of exercise & watching what you eat. so it takes time to cut that much out.
when reading labels notice what the portion size is with the calorie number, after seeing how little I could eat with the calories I was taking in, some things were easy to give up. If you are going out to eat their portions are huge so save half for the next day.
when choosing breads check the fiber number, try to get numbers above 4 these high fibers make the body work harder to turn those carbs into sugar so your blood sugar numbers won't spike & you'll feel more full longer.
I was also told to choose the carb, if I want dessert than skip the breads. ect. veggies you can eat alot of & have less calories, but some are higher in carbs (not the fiber side).
herbs add flavor without adding calories. there are diet jellos & puddings for the sweet tooth.
my exercise was walking my dog, it took time but it did come off, it's a lifestyle change & I had a surgery & was unable to keep the walking up & I gained back some of it, but at least I know I've lost the weight before & I'm in my mid 40's so I can do it again.
Best wishes
Di
thanks Di I never new how many calories are in a pound,I've got alote of calories to get ride of,HAHAHA thanks agine for you info
I was shocked myself, when I started I weighed 250. an hour walk (my slower pace ) is supposed to burn 300 calories, so I started asking my self am I willing to walk 2 hours to burn this candy bar?? but if I ate veggies, I could still take my hour walk & cancell out those calories & lose weight. I like math games so I was having fun with the numbers.
Good idea
I am with you! I am working on that too!
Here is what I have heard and experienced pre-diabetes.
Dr Oz even said it recently.
Avoid White Foods (few exceptions like Cauliflower & Tofu)
Avoid all flour products, breads, tortilla's, chips, cookies,
pasta, cereal, thick gravies.
Avoid rices, potatoes, corn, peas and preprocessed foods.
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. You have your vegetables and fruits, swinging around to your meats and finishing off with dairy.
Have variety and make it flavorful so you do not feel at a loss.
Eat talapia, turkey and an occasional steak. Meats not the problem, its the side dishes.
Tofu absorbs any flavor you put on it. Can be very tasty. It ranges from 0-2 Carbs per serving and 8 to 10 grams protein. O fat. Its cheap about $2 a pound.
Eat salads but watch whats in the salad. No croutons, heavy cheese etc..
Make them colorful with lots of good things. Put fresh spinach in you salad. Most are made with lettuces devoid in vitamins. Spinach will give it what it needs along with peppers, tomatoes, onion and even green olives…Yum!
Learn what veggies are not as starchy as others. Avoid corn and peas. While others eat these, you are on a weight loss mission! Green beans, broccoli and cauliflower are great and you want to learn to cook them in a tasty fashion. Look in our recipe section here. Cauliflower can be mashed as a replacement for mashed potatoes.
Learn to
Plan desserts. My favorite is chocolate sugar free pudding. I have one everyday and it keeps me from eating things I shouldn't. Strawberries are wonderful and other berries. Watermellon is also a treat
Walk besides exercising. Get movement into your body. Swing your arms when walking.
Never give up on yourself. You are wonderful. Love yourself as we do!!!
thanks pixsidust, most of my snacks are almonds or cucumbers an tomatoes, sometimes a large pickle or a few spears, love vegie's an there houndreds of ways to cook checken,I dont like fish or tofu yuk!!!,except tuna an samon from a can I put in salids, turnups an cauliflower is a great substitutes,I cant walk that much cause of my nerophy in my legs an feet, but I try an use a bicycle an stair stepper for 15 min each
I hate tofu as is too. My son soaked it in seasonings and it did not taste like tofu at all but the spices. Only then was I a believer until then I felt just like you. Blah! Well you know what you like…You have a plan and a goal! You have things that work for you exercise wise. I have great hope for you!!!! I drag my feet and legs so I know what you mean. I try and push through because I have dogs to walk. So proud of you!!! Wish we were in the same town to work together on our goals! I love dill pickles too
Hi Jimmuel: I just answered James post on this site and I must admit his is the best way to go. I've lost 60 lbs since the first of the year. You'll get tired of chicken breast all the time. Try other meats that are low in carbs and fat. Meat is always low in carbs, it's the fat content you have to watch. Good luck and keep us posted. Peggy
thanks for your reply valentine lady
I will keep everyone posted on my progress
yes I've got alote of good advice from james an all of DC for that matter,I love chicken, but an going to eat other protien
Hi jimmuel; Good for you…I know you'll do well. Keep us posted…Valentine Lady
Your on the right track! Lowering/eliminating carbs are the key, both in weight loss and in getting better blood sugar readings. I love chicken but there are alternatives. I still enjoy spaghetti sauce but put it on top of french-style green beans instead of pasta. The sauce has some carbs but by eliminating the pasta, I've made it low-carb. Keep us posted on your progress!
You are on the right track, diet and exercise. The two go hand and hand in any successful diet plan. Once you cut down on the carbs in your diet and exiercise the extra pounds will become history…keep up the good fight
thanks old biker,an going to do It
I eat protein with everything even my snacks. Sometimes a few nuts with 1/2 apple. Protein is the key for me! Lots of water, crystal light has come out with some great flavors! Congrats on your 1 hour per day of exercise, good luck! Keep us posted!
yes I eat alote of almonds an peacons cant stop eating peacons we had a peacon tree in are yard as a kid

you are so welcome!!
Howdy again Jimmuel!
I agree with Nick that you may get rather bored with JUST chic breast. I have lost 65 lbs in 2011 and have kept it off by following the meal plan I describe here ~ http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/14... . You can adapt it for your own tastes.
Hi James, long time no talk, I appologize for that…I've missed you. Found this on this site and went to your diet. I think it's the best diet ever. I do the same and have lost 60lbs. since the beginning of the year. I started on the Mediterranean Diet which is almost the same with lass protein. I became low in iron in my blood and had to eat more protein, so I went to your type of diet. It slowed down the weight loss, but I feel great. I still have a long way to go, but I sure have a good start. Thanks for the information. Still have you in my prayers. Hugs to you, Peggy
Thank you so much for your kind words and also for your prayers!
I am wondering about your friend "Dude" Have you been in touch with him recently? I am praying for him as well!
Dear James; Yes, we're still together, but he had to be put in a Nursing Home. He just couldn't care for himself anymore in Assisted Living. His hearing is bad but it's his mind thats going. One time he remembers me, next he forgets. He'll talk to me one day on the phone and all is okay, the next time he wants me to help him escape and go live on my peach farm. I have no idea where this comes from, I've never even lived on a farm much less own one, espically a peach farm. His COPD is worse and gets pnuemonia if you look at him wrong. His CDF has put him on oxygen 24/7. He's going down fast. But, I'll hang in there until he goes. I think that's only fair. The only way I can live with myself. Thank you for asking, he needs your prayers, please. Hugs to you, Peggy
you are so helpful James,Im going to try your meal plan but there's a couple of vegtables that I will add like spenich, collard green, and yes brussel sprouts, thanks for the advice, maybe I will lower my BS to an not have to take insulin anymore or my meds, will keep you posted if I can
some of those veggies I am unable to use since they are high in potassium and since I have kidney problems have to avoid high potassium and high phosphorus foods. But if you can eat them ENJOY!
I would be gratified to learn of your success in lowering your BG levels and perhaps even lowering your use of or even discontinuing diabetes Medications. That would really tickle me!
I didnt think about the potassium in them,I showed the diet to my sister an mother,an there going to try it to,I will keep you posted on my BS scores thanks agine for your Info
The potassium is only an issue if you have trouble with Chronic Kidney disease. If you don't have that problem then you don't have to worry about potassium.
I think you might get kind of bored with just chicken and veggies. You can mix it up and have a burger (without bun), steak, fish, shrimp, salad with ham, chicken or shrimp, or pot roast, roast pork, pork chops…many choices. You're on the right track, that's what i did and lost over 90 pounds.
Bottom line, pick a protein and just add vegetables!
I will have other things beside chicken breast, that was mainly a sujestion, but I eat alote of checken breast already three an four times a week, but your advice tells me Im in the right thinking of a diet with meat an vegie's thanks for your input
