As blog week comes to a close let's end on a high note. Let's talk about our “Diabetes Heros”. It can be anyone you’d like to recognize or admire, someone you know personally or not, someone with diabetes or maybe a Type 3. It might be a fabulous endo or CDE. It could be a d-celebrity or role-model. It’s up to you – who is your Diabetes Hero??

My mother! She was diagnosed T2 at the age of 40 & is now 86 with very few complications because of her control of this disease. She controlled it successfully for the 1st 10 years by diet alone then went on insulin after that. She still has her eyesight, still ambulatory, and only takes statins and a small dose of BP meds in addition to her insulin. Go Mom!

My grandmother would be mine for sure.. She was a type 1 even tho I did not meet her I heard about all the problems she had and she had 5 sons n 1 daughter . N also DC like James said … You guys all helped me through the worst n most ppl did not judge. So ya thanks for that :) n of course my father he's a type 2 n doesn't let it effect his life at all he was always my role model n still is. :)

I want to honor the many people here on DC who have encouraged me and instructed me over the 3+ yrs I have been active here.

I really don't want to name names as I am sure I will leave someone out. But each of you is special in your own way and through your encouragement, information, and sometimes a tough-love kick in the pants when needed, I went from someone who was injecting insulin 2x/day to someone managing my Diabetes Mellitus (DM)Type 2 without DM meds at all!

Without all your love and support, I think I'd still be shooting myself in the tummy. And I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
