Hi was wondering if people could give me insight on how they are able to prevent the onset of diabetes. My friend has prediabetes and I wanted to give him sound advice. He has started to diet properly and exercise a lot more. I have been pretty much sitting next to him every meal to help him out recently.
I was researching a lot and found some information from a doctor on healthtap that said that exercise and diet are the main ways (bit.ly/KUgfHh).
Does anyone else have any experience on how prevent diabetes? And if you were able to prevent it what steps did you take to prevent is relapse and what are the chances of relapse.
Thank you so much for all of your help.

Exercise and diet are what I do and it seems to be working. When your tests show normal doesn't mean you can stop exercising or dieting. This is your new life style and you have to keep at it or you will relapse.

You are doing it. Make sure that portion control is being followed as well, and if he is overweight, then get the extra weight off and stay active. Can eat six smal meals a day in order to keep from feeling hungry. This will help to prevent diabetes or delay it, since we don't really know what causes it then we don't know why one person gets it and another doesn't. Also try to keep stress under control as it causes all kinds of issues.

You are being such an awsome friend, and as far as relapses, we all do it once in awhile, just have to jump right back on track and let it go. I have been a type 1 since a kid, so have always used insulin, but wish I had the option of changing my eating and exercising to avoid diabetes.

With your help I'm sure he as well as yourself will do just fine:)
