That might be true to an extent, but mine plays a big role in hereditary. Most every one in my family, has it, or died from it. We are lucky if we don't get it.

Well Ms Deen just told America on The View that T2 is caused by being overweight. If youre in the Eastern Time Zone turn it on—ABC.

Maybe I almost missed it. Caught a snippet of Ms Dean on a show last night when I was checking in on a resident. She was stating something about not all foods cause diabetes. Gladly I had other residents to peek in on and could not stay to endure more.

I don't watch her on tv, I don't like her fatty style of cooking, and I could care less what she says about diabetes! Now, I think I'll go have a bowl of Paula Deen style fried ice cream! Just kidding about the ice cream!!!
I just saw her on TV with Barbara Walters and some doctor ( didn't get his name). All I heard them say was being overweight contributes to diabetes and losing weight can make it possible to manage with just diet and exercise! They even had a girl with diabetes on the show who got off meds by losing weight and changing her diet along with exercise.
I just saw the show about 5 minutes ago. I don't know if it was the same show that you are talking about, and I only watched it for about 5 minutes or so. Maybe she learns quickly!

Yes same show. In that particular segment, she said that the beauty of T2 diabetes is that it is reversible :(

flipmom 2012-05-21 12:30:28 -0500 Report

first time I heard "the beauty" when relating to my T2 and I am a positive person.. lol
well we all know (t2) that it can be manageable w proper diet n exercise and if that diet became the normal for u, then u might not need medications… She could have been a really good spoke person for T2 with proper information…

She's a newbe! Give her time, and I bet she'll lose weight, start cooking healthy, and appear as the new Paula Deen! You know what I'm saying, diabetes has a funny way of doing that!

jayabee52 2012-05-21 10:29:58 -0500 Report

my comment on that comment from P Deen would be unprintable in a mixed forum such as this. SMH! *bites tongue*

dietcherry 2012-05-21 10:34:45 -0500 Report

The complete statement was: Food doesnt cause T2, being overweight causes T2. *biting tongue too*

Yep, and I hope they have a microphone when they chomp down! We'll see if she can hit a high c…

I would think she'd have more respect for herself than that!

But then again, perhaps she's been listening to folks who don't know that much about diabetes. I wandered around in the diabetes wilderness too before I found DC.

'nuff said!

Paula Deen, what a disappointment. She had a golden opportunity to really help people with diabetes, but she sold out to the drug companies. So sad, She has the money to research and study, and to offer diabetics, as well as herself a better way to control this disease. Now she has more money, but she had diabetes is taking drugs. She may have had to start on a medication regiment, but after 2 years of being diagnosed you would have thought she could have come up with something better than her still unhealthy recipes. I give her an F for failing to get on board!

I have never seen her newest show since she came public.. Is it the same butter and frosting ya'll? I have to admit, I used to watch her all the time, not that I tried her cooking, I never did. I watched it for the entertaining factor… Shes a very lovely and funny lady to watch..
