My husband and I went to see his Cancer Specialist and he showed us a picture of his Cat Scan…it almost looks like a tadpole shape with the tail in the middle of his trachea…THIS Doctor says we have options…he wants to do a P.E.T. Scan to get a clearer picture and start Radiation treatments INSIDE and out!! I didn't know they COULD do radiation INSIDE!!! This Dr. says it could "greatly pro-long his life"!! He goes for his PET scan Wed. So please keep your fingers crossed for us!! Anthony seems to be doin' a little better too at least for the time being!! Still trying to keep my #'s under control but it's getting harder by the day…they cut off my Med. Ins. AGAIN!! Yesterday was 4 days without my insulin and my #'s were 478 last night!! And the S.S. $ I was going to get extra??? NOT gonna happen! :( They SAY they over paid and I OWE THEM $11.00!!! Hopefully this weekend won't be a bust on top of everything else!! Supposed to go to the Cape for our Anniversary!

Thanks hun, we're doing o.k. so far. His Cancer doctor gave us some hope that they MAY be able to "greatly pro-long his life". They are talking about doing radiation INSIDE as well as outside! Dr. says it won't kill the cancer but it may pr-long his life. One day at a time is all I can ask for at this point! And little do you know you ARE my shoulder to lean on!! Thanks for all your support!

Hi..this is Anne…I will pray for you and your husband so very much. I am not sure if your husband has throat cancer, or another kind, but do you remember Jack Klugman of the show 'Quincy'? He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1974, at the end of his other show 'The Odd Couple', and he is STILL living today, at the age of 90. I went online last night and looked him up..he was a cigarette smoker for years, and he battled quitting, but he eventually quit, and , over 30 years later, he's still with us…I will pray hard , very hard for you and your husband, and write me back if you want to!!!—-sincerely, ANNE

You can't go without insulin. Did you let it run low befor getting new prescription? Always need to have extra. My dr prescribes two bottles at a time ads I only pay the 1 copay. It is ordered for a sliding scale. That may help you in the future.

Prayers are being said for you and husband, hugs!!

Unfortunately my State Insurance won't pay for more than one vial at a time!! Didn't realize I was so low and then they cancelled my Insurance on me so I couldn't refill them! It took 3 1/2 hours at the Office to straighten it out, I went right away and filled my scripts and it's a good thing I did cause they cancelled me AGAIN! But at least I'm O.k. for this month!! Just have to go fight with the Office AGAIN!! Thanks for the prayers and hugs and right back at cha'!!! :)

If the dr writes the prescription, the state insurance as well as any other insurance has to pay for it. they can't deny it. For instance, most insurance will pay for a 30 day supply of meds, but if you have to take a pill 2x a day then that is 60 pills. They can't say we will only cover 30 pills. By writing a script for a sliding scale then your amount of insulin used will be all over the place which justifies the two bottle for one copay. I have done this with state insurance as well my private.

Can you speak with a supervisor or manager to see why it keeps getting canceled and then reinstated? There has to be a glitch somewhere?

nanaellen 2012-05-17 17:27:52 -0500 Report

OH, I see what you mean now! I never thought of asking my Dr. to re-write the scripts that way!! Thank you so much! And Yes, there's a BIG glitch in the R.I. system…as it turns out…they hired people from Massachusetts to work in a Rhode Island Office…what idiots they are!!! Mass. Laws and R.I. laws are completely different and I went through the same thing a couple of months ago!! They put in a wrong code and I'm the one suffering for it!! I ALMOST screamed at them last time "DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT HIGH BLOOD SUGARS DO TO YOUR BODY WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE INSULIN!!??" bUT MY mOTHER TAUGHT ME BETTER!! She always told us if you don't have something nice to say…don't say anything at all!! So I didn't! But as it turns out God ALWAYS watches over me!! Thanks!

You are so welcome, it is so much cheaper that way. If the dr seems like he doesn't want to do it then explain you can't afford it any other way. Drs usually don't have a problem doing it, and in fact I learned about it when one of my drs wrote it that way for me and explained how upset he gets that insulin is so expensive and there isn't a generic and people need it to live! He said the price is what will keep people from using insulin the way they need to as they will try and stretch it out or not use it. I loved this dr, but we moved out of state and I have other great drs now.

Don't scream at them as it will probably just make them move slower, and you are already under enough stress which isn't good. I would just explain that every time they do this it further jeopardizes your health and can actually kill you and they would be held responsible. This usually gets the point across and suddenly no more problems. It is upsetting to go that route, but then it is our health. Also, ask for a manager and then work it out so that if it happens again you can call her/him so they can correct it immediately since they will already know you.

Yes, mother is right and God has his ways of watching out for us even when we don't quite see it clearly:)

4 days without insulin is VERY dangerous hun! And a blood suagr of 478 is going to put you in DKA (Diabetic Keto Acidosis) and that will more than likely require you to go into the ICU. You will be of no help if you dont take care of yourself first, believe me! I know this is hard with being a mother and wife, but they need you to be healthy as well. Try calling the manufacturer of your insulin and tellin them your situation. I have heard many great stories about them helping people out. Also, use online resources. google free or discounted insulin/ Matter of fact, which kind do you take?

Hi Rachel, I got my Ins. straightened out after 3 1/2 hours at the Office so I went and got ALL my meds!! I'll be O.K. for THIS month at least cause they cancelled my Ins. AGAIN!! It's all because someone keeps putting in the wrong code on the computer so it denies me. I just have to go fight with the Office AGAIN!! My #'s are slowly coming back down!! Thanks for your concern! I used to get my Insulin from the manufacturer till I got "Insurance"!! What a joke Rhode Island is!! But anyway on a brighter note my BS was only 159 this a.m. which for me is phenominal!!!

That is sure a mix of good news and bad! Glad Anthony is doing better and that you see hope for your husbands treatment process. Have a wonderful Anniversary at the Cape. How soon will this happen?

nanaellen 2012-05-16 17:28:06 -0500 Report

Well, we just got back from the PET Scan today, don't know when they will start his treatments or when we'll get the results back. We're going to the Cape this Sat. and coming back on Mon. I did spend 3 1/2 hours at the Dept. of Human Services and got my Med. back so I went and refilled ALL my meds. Today got a letter saying it was cancelled AGAIN!! I'm O.K. for now but we'll see what happens!! Trying really hard to get my #'s back in control! I've got my insulin for at least THIS month!! Can't wait till Saturday!! It will be a GREAT stress relief for us both!! :)
